I'm in the market to pick up a vise to mount to my gun table.  What are you guys using?  What do I need to stay away from?  Whats the best way to mount it?

I bought a really old lakeside (think this was a monkey wards brand?) vise and re-furbished it.  The jaws are only about 4 inches but the slide is longer than most vises available today.  I epoxied a backer plate of 1/4" mild steel to the bottom of my (solid core door) bench and bolted straight through.

As purchased after disassembly...

Finished product

I have a ton of pictures of the process if anyone gives a shit, was actually sort of interesting.  I wasn't the first person to refurbish this old workhorse.

Just a 6 inch shop vise from John Deere.  My reloading bench is an ancient office desk that is super heavy, the vise is just

bolted to the top.  Very handy for AR work with a mag well block and upper clamps.

I have a 8" from home depot, I believe, bolted through the plywood on the bench.

I also have a 4 3/4" modular parrot vice bolted to that same bench for when I need more surface contact or a different angle.
