Well I've recently gotten in a little bit of wood working to pass the time and I have decided I want to build a rack of sorts to hold my pistols in my safe. I found some plans on 7.62x54r.net and I like their design but was curious if anyone else had ever built one and if so what did you follow. Looking to hold about a dozen handguns, mostly full-size Sigs and Glocks.

Oh yeah I will add a pic of my pups.  http://s43.photobucket.com/user/ffemt33/media/IMG_0045_zpsvlob04er.jpg.html

Sounds nice.
Nah, I cheaped out and got several plate holder wire thingies at Chinamart for 3 bucks apiece

The only problem with wood racks inside a safe is they take up space. You're better off with a heavy gauge wire rack.  I have a wooden rifle rack made of nice oak from old wood pallets. Looks darn good and holds ten rifles. Its similar in design to the 7.62x54r net example.

While I'm a big fan of the 7.62x54r.net "Finnish Armory" horizontal rifle racks, the above posters are correct: the wood pistol racks take up way too much space.
The easy, cheap, effective, good way to do this is to get those plastic-coated wire racks for kitchen cabinets / pantries, turn them on their side with the legs facing the back of the safe, and slide the pistols in between the wires making up the "top" of the rack. A piece of 1/8 inch Masonite between racks allows you to stack them.

I went to Staples and bought plastic mail organizers.  I get a semi-auto handgun in every other slot.  They were about $5 a piece.

Nice work there Hanau, but I'm bettin you're gonna need a new blade on your table saw after slicing through that 1911 frame.
