Narrowed it down to either the Benchmade 3320 Pagan ($238) http://www.benchmade.com/products/3320

or Benchmade 3300 Infidel ($258) http://www.benchmade.com/products/3300.

ETA: Ditched the OTFs and went with the Auto Rift side opener.

I have an Infidel and it is a POS,  I don't know anything about the Pagan but I will say BM side autos are rock solid but their OTF offerings are shit IMHO.  For OTF I would go Microtech, much better knife.  Overall, BM is my favorite knife but their OTFs are awful.

OTF's are a novelty.

Might as well spend the money on this:

Wow! I just assumed Benchmade OTFs would be on par with their side autos.

They're OK but Microtechs are just better. Ultratech costs less than an Infidel too, even after BM's significant LE/mil discount.

They are not even close.  If you want OTF you want MT.

For serious use get a side opener.

The Auto Benchmade Adamas is bad ass & the Auto Benchmade Rift is by far MY favorite Benchmade.

If PA would let me carry it, I'd have one too.

I have a regular Adamas and that knife is a beast.

It was my first Benchmade and it certainly made an impression on this ZT fanboy.

About Microtech?

Here's my experience with them so far:

9555 auto rift is pretty sweet. I like mine fairly well, I would prefer a push button to the axis lock.

The Adamas seems nice. I might try one later this year. If they had an auto contigo I would buy it.

My experience is different,  The MTs are rock solid and the BM has tons of play and fires weakly.

I DO agree with a getting a side opener for serious use.

Shit. Was looking at Microtechs now. I might just stick with side autos.

I have carried the side auto Benchmades for years.

AFO-II Drop Point

That is a good knife but still big if you work in an office for EDC.

I just bought this, Zero Tolerance 0770CF  Carbon Fiber

Which I am blown away how solid yet light,  3 oz. which is great for me for EDC.

Skip the Benchmade OTF knives  for that kind of money if you want Auto go side auto

I am happy with my infidel it is a single edge version w/ s30v blade now discontinued still a novelty even with a more useful blade design. Of course only paying $185 for it makes me happy with it.

I am however rather disappointed the Impel I bought. Nice knife great size but the safety broke off after 3 days of carrying it.

In my experience, the Infidels were not good.  My four buddies and I got them, and (IIRC) three of them shredded inside and had to go back.  Pure crap - at least the first generation of them was.

As far as that paper test, it doesn't prove anything.  The first blade had a tanto profile.  So, after the first 1/2 inch or so, the blade is straight and it just glides through the paper after being cut to that profile.  The infidel had a tapered, double-edge profile.  That means that the blade constantly had to cut more and more paper, which slowed it down and stopped it.

The real test of an OTF, and I've had several, is a consistent lockup with little to no play, and a consistent close.  Microtech OTFs have a very refined mechanism and are top notch.

I carry a ultratech for a edc knife but i have zero use for a utility type knife. If i need one, ive got a gerber lmf in the truck. My edc knives are used for cutting boxes. For my tactical neckbeard edc loadout, its a auto adamas.

Where did you find them so cheap?

Even with the LE discount, that is significantly less

If that is for me there is a dealer that hits gun shows in my area that loves to sell close to cost. I usually only go to gun shows to see if he is there and what he has.

I have picked up quite a few Benchmades and ZTs for a song.
