Like the title says, I need a good AR15 pouch for a belt.  I don't know squat about MOLLE or if that stuff can be rigged for a belt.

Anyway, anybody have any they like that work well on a belt.  I need a flap and preferably no hook/loop but the latter I'm prolly stuck with these days.

What have you guys got?

OK, I'll be more specific.

Gotta offer full coverage to the mag including flap.  Will be worn in snow and frost conditions.

If you're fine with using a pistol belt, why not ALICE pouches?

If you need a pouch with a flap, most of them are going to be designed to work with PALS webbing.  You can always add some MALICE clips to the back of it and use them as belt loops.

MALICE Clips

There's also this, if you don't absolutely need a flap -->  Mako AR15 Mag Pouch

Good suggestion but...they are bulkier than the slimmer MOLLE type I see today.  I'm just not sure if the MOLLE jobs can be used with a belt and I actually only need individual pouches not stacked three deep. Also, I make my own rigging and I like the leather belt so if they have a belt loop of some sort that'll be good to keep them as bulk-free as possible.

Honest to God man, if you don't want the BS responses, just ask in the gear forum.

I can't find the mag pouches I was thinking, but you could use something like this: http://www.skdtac.com/Tactical-Tailor-Fight-Light-5-56-Double-Mag-Pouch-p/1tt.200.htm

You can route the malice clips so that they work well with a belt.

Actually, I thought the BS responses to the other thread were pretty funny.

You might have nailed it tho.

Looking at that thing you posted them might just do it.

TT site looks like it has some good options and if the velcro crap ruins the day I can remove it and add snaps.

Thanks but keep'em coming anyone else.  Always interested in what's out there.

Let me break this down Barney Style

1. Put AR mags in upside down in a pouch
2. Go in snow
3. Insert Mag in rifle after withdrawing from mag
4. Shoot Rifle

Is this open at the bottom?  Looks like the corners are open.

Is the belt attachement/loop that plastic thing w/ slots in it that Safariland uses on pistol pouches?

It's a different material, but they aren't "open" in a sense of the mags being exposed.

The pouches actually use metal clips, the can be clipped onto a duty belt, threaded through or (I assume?) attached to MOLLE, but they aren't MOLLE clips as we know them. If I can't find pictures online I'll take pictures of them myself when I'm home tomorrow.

EDIT: EBAY Listing with front/back photos.

Your average "belt" will not do well at supporting the weight of loaded 30 round magazines.  Hence, why you can't find what I think you're looking for.

Yeah, Rigger/Instructor belt (the type designed for a loaded pistol) at the least.

My leather belts handle more weight than an M16 mag so I have no worries about that.

And a pistol belt will be no trouble but thanks for the tips.

That Bianchi looks good as does maybe the TT system w/ adapter.

The Brits are still big believers in the belt concept, and I think they've got the best setups out there for that.

Google up the terms "hippo pad" and "belt order", take a look at the pictures.

Yes, covered.

I have had everything freeze solid before, especially after falls skiing when everything gets covered.  Stuff close to the body will sometimes melt then refreeze, blowing snow gets EVERYWHERE and frosts.  I've had to beat pistols against a tree to get the slide racked and other times had to fire them to release the slide.

My humble contribution.

http://www.skdtac.com/PIG-Bomber-Magazine-Pouch-Single-p/pig.710.htm

You could make your own belt loop using the molle webbing and some 550 cord.  Or leather.  Or whatever you like.  Since running a cord/strap through the molle would allow you to create a loop that would hold the pouch vertical.

There is also this product, same vendor.

http://www.skdtac.com/Tactical-Tailor-Malice-Clip-Belt-Adapter-p/1tt.193.htm

Makes molle into belt loop compatible.  You'd have to buy malice clips too....btw.

Or this one, less stuff to buy.

http://www.skdtac.com/FirstSpear-Missing-Link-p/fsr.110.htm

Hope that helps.

Thanks.

The PIG system looks good and I think I'll try it.

The single mag poch is nice and thin and not floppy and the double looks good, too.  Belt adapters should work, too.

Thanks for all your help.

I wonder if they have anything like the leather FAL mag pouches for AR mags.  They work great on a leather belt and they fully protect the magazine.

Come to think of it, the FAL pouches might work or are they too short for a 30 round 5.56 mag?

They might work.  I know with a double pouch they fit (I was able to fit a 30-round mag no problem in each pouch of a BAR belt made to fit FAL magazines by the Belgians), but they very well may not on a single like the leather pouches.  I can't really test it right now, since I don't own an AR (I used a friend's mags a while back to see if they'd fit in the BAR belt).

I have some of those vinyl G3 mag pouches but the 30-rd M16 mag does not fit there IIRC.

I think the leather ones may be a tad bit roomier, but I don't have the G-3 ones to compare them to.
