So a couple months ago I bought a 91 BMW 318is slicktop that was bone stock.  Nothing majorly wrong with it, just a tired suspension, some minor leaks, faded paint, the usual stuff with old cars.  After a bit of work I have cleaned up the car and fixed all the issues except the paint.  I am still undecided on what color I will be painting the car.

Car was originally sterling silver which I am not too much of a fan.  I like black but I have a couple hundred yard dirt driveway so that probably is going to be impossible to keep clean.  Alpine white is nice but that and red are on pretty much every E30 out there.  I need some ideas (and pictures if you have them) of what I should paint my car.

The lines and shape of an E30 will always be beautiful.  They really got it right with that body design IMO.

My TK looked good in white.

Don't know what a TK is? Well, if you don't own one and aren't on a forum specifically for that brand of vehicle, you wouldn't.

Just like most of us don't know what an E30 is.

If it were stock, I'd say a current BMW color like "Steel Blue Metallic".  You know, to kinda look like the car Jason drove.  That's a sexy ride.

I highly recommend a color from BASF's R-M brand. Their Onyx HD is fantastic.

I am in the search for an E24, E28 is bit down the list (not a fan of four doors).

For people such as yourself that are unfamiliar with the best drivers car ever made, if you read the OP it says what it is, or for it to be even easier, just look at the pictures.  That is an E30.

That may be the color, I recently built (for customers) two different estoril blue e36 M3 race cars.

I drove a buddy's E30 when I was in the military, hated it because I didn't know any better.

I bought an E36 in 2006 (POS 1993 318is) and hated the way it handled because I didn't know any better.

I picked up my current DD, an E46 2004 330xi last year and completely HATE the way it feels on the road compared to the E36...because now I know better.

Coming around full circle, I'd love to have an E30 for my next car.  Probably not for a daily, though.

Admittedly, I love how user friendly all of them have been when it comes to doing maintenance.

I would have figured that everyone in GD, could tell you what an E30, E36, E46, FJ40, FJ60, FJ80, TJ, JK, B Body, G Body, F Body, (and I could go on) is.
I am a car guy though, so I take that sort of knowledge for granted sometimes. We do discuss these vehicles regularly here FWIW.

Schmidt Th Lines, old school 80's rims.  Mine are in 17" though, I really wish I could find some in 16 instead.  Finding 4x100 rims in 20-25 offset is a bit tough nowadays unless it is a BBS type rim that everyone already has on their old school bmw's, vw's. and everything else from that era.  I like BBS but wanted something period correct that was different.  I almost went with some Ronal Turbo rims but then everyone would have been when they saw them.

Too many people have the BBS RS on the car you posted, the rims you posted are too new of a style for an E30 in my opinion.  I went with old school bottlecaps on steriods, Schmidt TH Lines.  Not everyones cup of tea (which I like) but they are period correct and not on every car you see.  I do like how that blue looks.

I see where you are coming from.  Go with the Le Mans blue, and re-post pics....  It's the only way to be sure!

first. do a five lug conversion and get rid of those wheels but if you like them you like them

second, i like the idea of estoril blue, but would also suggest phoenix yellow like the early e46 m3's had. that could work well with the style you've got going on. Maybe Inka orange of golf from a 2002?

but my final answer is:

technoviolett. A friend had an e30 xi touring in technoviolett and it was absolutely awesome

Too many Estoril Blue's out there. The new F30s have that option...

Another vote for white here.
May seem "boring", but white shows dirt less than dark colors (I have a dirt road as well),
holds up longer and is easier to maintain.

Car will sell quicker (when it comes time to sell) with a standard paint color.

Estoril Blue or Techno Violet.

My E30 was Smaragdgrun Metallic. I have no idea what the US version of that was, if there even was one (it was an EDM car in Germany).
