Is it considered a NFA item with its unique action?  (The hand crank)

My very limited understanding is that as long as there one action for each bullet being fired its not an NFA.

It depends on barrel length I think, hand crank is not FA, electric cranking is FA

Here in Michigan I can mosey on down to Midwest Gun Exchange in Indiana and pick one up for 40k as a rifle as long as its got 16" barrels

First answer: it's "Gatling" with a "g".

Second answer: it's not an NFA item since it's manually operated.

human power is not FA, if you have to make continuous motion it is human powered, if you make a singular action, like holding a trigger and more than one round is fired, its FA

These things were all the rage in the mid 90's.  Not sure if they still are.

If you've got 6 SKS's hanging around doing nothing you could build one of these. Non-NFA.

Looks like Vorlon technology.

This. You motorize it and it's a different story.

What if you used a dog running on a treadmill and a magnetic coupler?

<---- Not a machinist or engineer nor do I play one on T.V..

So, how fast can someone conceivably get a hand cranked , multi-barrel firearm to fire?

GE melted one when they hooked an electric motor to it.  After the engineers who did it quit laughing themselves silly, they invented the mini-gun.

It would be dependent on gearing and how big a boy you are to name a couple of variables. There are a few others to take into consideration.

Nope, can't mount guns on a plane.

Barrel length doesn't matter.  They're not shoulder fired so they don't meet the definition of a rifle.

Not only that, but the cartridges produce fire...and everyone in GD knows you can't take fire on an airplane.

Barrel restrictions shouldn't apply since Gatling guns aren't rifles. They are like semiauto 1919s and M2s and those can legally have barrels less than 16" as long as they are over 26" long.

ETA: If kiln guns can have nonnfa suppressors because they aren't portable a much heavier and more permanently mounted Gatling should certainly qualify if someone wrote a tech letter.
