I have been looking at these vs a United Cutlery Gladiator Sword. Why? Who the hell knows. Been hearing so many mixed reviews that I hoped someone here might have some firsthand experience with them. Free shipping tonight, so I'm in the mood to buy more useless shit.

Cold Steel Gladius Machete Sword - 1055 Carbon Steel - $31.99

United Cutlery Combat Commander Gladiator Sword - 1060 carbon steel - $26.99

Make sure to get a riot shield, too.

If you wanna go Roman, ya' gotta go all the way.

Keep in mind it's a machete not a sword.  That's why it's so cheap, it's far lighter and thinner than a true Gladius.

I have a 1917 Hybrid Cutlass from Cold Steel and their website lists a similar model for $300.

Real Battle Ready Gladius $745

For a few years now my now 12 year old son has Cold Steel's Gladius, Kopis, and maybe another; I can't remember. They are all nice for the money and have held up to his (ab)use. We've got some overgrown land and clear it a few times a year plus general pre-teen destruction stuff around the house and they have held up perfectly. Fo and enjoy!

I may have purchased one of these.

In my defense, I was drinking and watching Gladiator.

The Cold Steel one isn't finished too hot. It works, but it's not that nice. I'd try to UC one, it seems to have a nicer fit/finish.

If it's anything like their Thai short sword, prepare for disappointment.  I has been mentioned, these are machetes, very thin, flexible blades.  I can practice form with the Thai short sword (Krabi Krabong) but it won't hold up to blade sparring (yes, using dulled live blades).  My old pair of Dhas from Thailand are very worn but have held up well for 10+ years.

Nice!  Love that website, I am probably going to buy a nice Katana from there as a gift for my wife.  I just hope she never asks how much it costs.

1055 vs 1060
high grade machete/sword  vs sword steel.
I had a Cold Steel,  it would be awesome for cutting sod to get down to sprinker heads but I did not want to be seen in my front yard with a gladius.
very rugged though.

I'd prefer a nice Katana.

I would take Cold Steel over United every time.

While I like the United design more, they've always been a bit of a joke.

Cold Steel makes usable shit... it ain't the best shit, but at least it's functional.

I have a kukhri (or whatever) machete. I keep it in my truck with an ax for clearing brush, trails, zombies, etc. Good machete, horrible sword,

Ive trained in kenjitsu/iado, here and in japan fwiw

Id like to start fencing and their Prussian saber has caught my eye
