1953 Strat. This is the very first production Fender Strat ever made. Gruhn's is showing it marked as "SOLD". They were asking $250,000

Was thinking the same thing. Pretty sure some Hendrix and SRV strats have sold for more than $250,000.

I'm guessing they were owned by someone famous.
example:
Jimi's 1970 Strat worth $1 million+
normal 1970 Strat worth about $4000.

If that is original condition it is amazing!

If it has been redone it is still pretty amazing.

My kid is wanting to take guitar lessons.  I thought that it would be a good starter instrument.

I understood David Gilmour had one of the really early ones.

I think Gilmour's Strat is serial number 0001 on the neck plate. The very first Strats started with serial number 0100 on the back plate, then a few months later Fender switched the serial number to the neck plate and started with serial number 0001.

What a timeless design.  That looks no different than a modern version.

If he doesn't like the color, you can hit with some Krylon.   Then he's all set to play Smoke on the Water.

I believe there was a '59 Gibson Les Paul that went for half a million or so a few years ago.
