Got to thinking about this working on my truck. Do you think you've tightened or loosened more things in your life?

Screws, bolts, caps, etc.

I took lots of stuff apart as a kid that never got put back together.

They were already "loose".

I've never really thought about it.

I don't think I'd care to think about it.

Tightened at easily a100/1 ratio

This. Every thing from a TV remote to a 1986 Mazda RX-7 and a Jeep Cherokee .

Tightened, because I've built a lot of things and used a lot of screws.

loosened, by shooting shit up, stuff becomes loose when it's shot

Things often loosen themselves, so I tighten them.

Even if I did, there was always at least one screw, bolt, or nut left over.

I was wild as a younger man.

I've definitely loosened up a lot of "things" in my day.

when I started working on stuff, there were always left over parts and screws.
eventually, I got to the point where there were no left over parts, but I know I have a coffee can full of screws, nuts and bolts from previous projects.

Hmmm, thats a good question.

I used to strip cars for a few extra bucks

But I've also made a lot of money building shit.

I'd have to call it a push.

Took apart may more stuff than I have put together, especially as a child.

Worked a manufacturing type job for a few years, armed with a pneumatic torque gun. So I have done way more tightening.

Tightened, definitely.  Most of the things I loosened, I ultimately retightened.  Plus, I've put in thousands of #8 x 1 1/4", square drive, flat-head, wood screws.

Ironworker for 38+ years...tighten no doubt about it.

Tightened by far. Drywall, subfloor, decking times lots of houses growing up as my family was in home building business.

Loosened, without a doubt. Retired after 26 years as a heavy equipment mechanic, and lots of shit gets torn down strictly for failure analysis, never to be reassembled.

I assembled Miller welding machines as a summer job for several years, so tightening easily takes the cake.

Tightened.  19 1/2 years of tightening a shitload of 3/8 inch Hilti concrete anchors and 1/4 inch drywall anchors at work.

The majority of wrenchin' I've done has usually been a removal & replace/reinstall sort of thing.
I don't recall having to remove many arty fuses once installed though, so I'll go with tightening.

Interesting thing to think about. I've definitely tightened more.   Screws and bolts while building things adds up pretty quickly.  Most things I've loosened I've re-tightened

Me too. I ran miles of screw pipe "back in the day". Galvanized water pipe was the norm.

Tightened definitely.
20 years as a Peterbilt mechanic, in addition to home projects.

I was going to say loosened, since there always seems to be one extra bolt after a majior vehicle repair.

But then I think about the thousands of fasteners on my barns that I've tightened, and remain so.

Hardcore Jeep freak for about 12 years. Have ridden a Ducati for 15.
Crapload of saws, and small engines....and Farm for a living.

Some days, all I do is tighten shit, and cuss.

Big part of my career in the oil industry was assembling MWD tools, so tightening for sure.

For sure tighten. I do it for a living. I build new stuff. Service dept fixes broke machines, they are prob closer to a 50/50 split.

Same here.

It's probably true for humanity overall if you think about things like appliances, cars, decks, fences, bridges, and buildings that are put together with screws but shredded or otherwise cut apart when their time is done.

Pretty much 50/50.

Everything I've loosened I've usually tightened.

Tightened. I'm a manufacturing engineer, always putting new things together. If I loosen something I always tighten it back. Before that I worked in assembly so no doubt.

I voted tighten.

But I've certainly spent more time loosening.

Pretty much the same here.

I only take apart stuff for repairs, or for fun.
