Doesn't look all that good to me.

I won't be going to the movies to see it

Plan to see the Superman/Batman movie.

Not sure about DeadPool. I have a feeling all the best parts have been shown in the trailers

I'm all but certain that Deadpool will suck big time. .

this..

its gonna be a fucking great movie..  there isn't a better actor the world over that could do it ...

Dead pool

Bat V Super

Capt America Civil War

X Men Apocalypse

Suicide Squad

Star Trek Beyond

Bourne 5

this year won't fucking suck ...

Leto as Joker will be fine..  its no ledger but everyone knows that ... as long as you don't expect a ledger performance you will be able to sleep at night

now if they would just get off their asses and start Gambit (supposedly coming out in fall this year)  like they said 3 years ago..

I don't know. X-Men Apocalypse looks mediocre at best. I'm also lumping both Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad in the mediocre category as well. Even though the latest Suicide Squad trailer looks good...

X Men Age of Apocalypse is the one that has me the most worried.  It just doesn't look good.
Dawn of Justice I will see, just because it's an event.  I may see Suicide Squad in theaters if it gets good reviews.  If it gets mediocre or bad reviews I may wait till it comes out on FIOS On-Demand and rent it.

This seems to make sense:

They are not making the same Joker over and over again, because that would be a slap in the face to the great actors that have played that role. If they did, viewers would pretty much just dismiss whatever Jokers they thought didn't nail the role as much as their favorite, and it would detract from the movies. Thus, different Jokers.

I, for one, think Jared Leto is a fantastic actor, and he will do a great job in this role. I can't wait to see it.

I liked the first Suicide Squad trailer much better than this one.  It maybe the Queen song!  It did not fit!   This movie feels very campy to me right now, unlike Captain America : Civil War.  That movie looks bad ass in the trailer.

Perfect.
Also, there was the "clown" version of Joker with Cesar Romero in the old TV show.
All versions of the character were quite different.

That is one of things I like as well. The Joker as a whole is a complex character an I feel they are parsing out bits and pieces to different actors.

Very  true. Ledger set the standard for the joker...  batman  vs Superman looks lame..

On a side  note, DC has established universes with the arrow and flash tv shows.  I wish they would use the actors from them for the upcoming justice League movie and big screen arrow and flash movies...

What's wrong with this joker? There are comic books of him murdering a pre-teen girl.

Joker has many different spins on his character, humor and all that. People act like this new Joker is the equivilant of changing the Coca-Cola recipe or something.

Go look at every major Joker played by a different actor. They're ALL different and distinct from each other.

I don't know, nor care, about DC Comics mythology.  That trailer is awesome.  I pulled it up on my TV, fired up the stereo, and let it rip.  The Queen soundtrack certainly helped but, damn, that looks like an awfully fun film.  I can't wait.  Do they give awards for trailers?

I've heard very good theories on why this Joker looks the way he does. I hope they are true because it would be a painful twist most won't see coming and it will tie in nicely with the Batman vs Superman movie.

I liked the Nolan Batman movies. Heck I even liked the two Burton Batman movies.

I agree that "dark" can work, but "dark" requires a more deft touch and actors who can do "dark" and not have it come off as campy or corny, which is what Suicide Squad and Batman vs Superman feel like to me.

I think another aspect is the notion of "over the top". Both Suicide Squad and Bat vs Soup just scream "overdone ham" to me. The Nolan Batman movies were all fairly grounded, and that grounding really serves their dark tones. But when you try to do "dark" alongside "over the top" you wind up sacrificing something.

Edit: I think I've nailed it down. Suicide Squad feels like the campy neon Schumacher "Batman Forever" and Bat vs Soup feels like the clunky, trying too hard "Batman and Robin".

David Ayer wrote and directed Fury, wrote Training Day and several other dark cop dramas. Guy has talent, and I trust he knows what he's doing.

eta- I'll be shocked and disappointed if it's anything approaching campy. I'd bet dollars to donuts it's a better movie than Syder's Dawn of Justice.

I've heard very good theories on why this Joker looks the way he does. I hope they are true because it would be a painful twist most won't see coming and it will tie in nicely with the Batman vs Superman movie.

Mind sharing some of those theories?

David Ayer sure likes his cholo/L.A. gang culture, with all that shitty prison ink he likes to put on all his characters.

He is a white guy who grew up in the LA ghetto IIRC. That seems to have influenced him a lot.
