Guy reads a lot for audiobooks these days. His voice was torture in Scalzi's Redshirts.

I almost didn't get Ready Player One because he was narrating. But he did pretty good. He's no John Lee but this book was not bad at all. There's also an easter egg in there for him.

I wonder what it feels like to have been the most annoying character in TV history.

I listened to ready player one while patrolling. I enjoyed the book but that was before I found out he is an ultra-regressive. I just can't bring myself to listen to any more of his narration.

On that note, don't follow Mark Hamill on twitter. I'm a huge Star Wars/Hamill fan but he's a raging leftist as well. Leave my SW's alone

They are just monkeys that dance for us. Who cares what they say?

The guy who wrote RPO has to be a regressive as well. Just going by the dystopian setting and how he envisions Earth got there.

I put on Secret of Nimh for my teenager the other day, she was requesting an old animated film of her youth.

Realized WW did the voice for one of the annoying little mouse kids.

Anyway, Wil is a tool these days.    He went from the wise sage of "don't be a dick on the nets," to being an absolute fuck for anyone not of the liberal bent.

I don't mind his audiobook readings, as I'm old enough to remember the nasal readings from Grover (always just one take) Gardner.   Still think the best audio book reader was Frank Muller.   His "Red October" is amazing to listen too, and even makes old Charles Dickens' stuff awesome and engaging.

As for Wheaton, I think its admirable that he still has a life and a career after growing up as a kid star in Hollywood.  That place chews up kids and fucks em up bad.   He was good in Stand by Me, and he was alright as Wesley all things considered.  Some say the showrunners mortally wounded his character with "shut up Wesley!" but I think they destroyed everyone's ability to take him seriously in the third episode of the TNG series when he got wasted and took over engineering.  (That's the ep where Tasha Yar boned Data, btw).

Nowadays, he's just another fucking prima donna who thinks because he used to memorize lines that makes in a political pundit or something.

No, he did alright in Ready Player. Maybe someone clued him in and he got a voice coach or whatever. I'm super picky about this. If there's a sex scene with a dude narrating I skip over it. Can't stand to hear a guy going Ohh Oohhh yeah lick my taint in falsetto.

I'll give Coyote a try but I can't imagine how anyone could read better than John Lee. Maybe recommend me a book.

Met Wheaton years ago in San Francisco.  I was there for MacWorld Expo, he was signing books at a bookstore next to my hotel.

Douchebag deluxe.  I cringe now if he's in an episode of STTNG.  Can't watch it.

Ready player one, was fucking horrid i was looking forward to it as every "best" list had it on it.

once you rip out the references it was nothing but a non nonsensical terribly lame dues-ex story with memberberries.

it was post apocalyptic except when it wasn't, the main character some how knows everything* from the 70-80-90's pop culture and to top it all off hes also the best at old arcade games, memorized thousands of hours of TV programs.

i would have been fine had he known the shit but the author tries to appeal to every variation of fandom in addition to the normal person, so one paragraph is about the wonder years then the next is about some obscure 70's Japanese tv show, then its Dungeons and Dragons etc etc....

honestly its the big bang theory of books really stupid but he talked about X and i love X.

also FWW hes completely retarded.

Almost $300 billion dollars at stake, 8 billion people in the world, and they've been searching for three years, iirc. So, yeah, the guy who wins the quest is going to be knowledgeable by default. He has self selected. He is #1 out of 8 billion. I award you no points, and may Anorak have mercy on your soul.

Now audiobooks I love - great to listen to while driving or knitting.  My favorites are the entire Odd Thomas series, the Deed of Paksenarrion (although with the sequel series the quality dropped a bit), and... pretty much anything by Neil Gaiman just because he tends to do his own audiobooks.

Not sure I'd care to listen to Wil Wheton though.  I mean I don't mind his appearances on TBBT, and his attempts to show everyone how geek-chic he is but... meh.  I'd rather listen to someone else.

Ready player one, narrated by Will was really good.  Highly recommended.  Disagreeing with his politics and enjoying his entertainment aren't mutually exclusive.  I don't care about ANY entertainer's political views. I DO wish they would keep their mouths shut, however... like their celebrity status somehow makes their political opinion more valid. Just shut-up and entertain me.
