I got my Form1 this week and printed this out of ABS filament on my Gen1 MakerBot Replicator, it's basically just 8 stacked cones, this design allowed me to print it as one solid piece of plastic.I turned and knurled a barbed thread insert that I heated and pressed/melted in, using a 16" barrel kept an eye looking down the bore checking alignment as I spun the barrel and my tweaks to the still pliable base of the silencer as it cooled, I marked the front cap by heating letter punches with a torch and basically branded the plastic to a nice depth. Used a combination of acetone smoothing and sanding to achieve the final finish. The total material cost is about $3, a $1.50 worth of plastic and the rest is in the hunk of brass for the threaded insert.

Mounted on my Ruger Mk4 22/45 Lite

I think the gist is, due to material costs, it's essentially disposable. I could be wrong, though.

Cool, let us know how it holds up

I've had often though that a softer material that could absorb sound would work well for these... or at least take the edge off the crack

It is completely disposable, which is an awesome idea. I like it. I would also be curious of the heating and cooling of the plastic would cause the lead and residue to flake off and just shake out the  holes.

If only there wasn't a 1 year wait and $200 to go along with it.

The fucking thing only cost him $3, 22 cans should be disposable anyway.

OMG!
I've been told that's impossible!
You need 87 machinists with doctorates in metalurgy, fluid mechanics, and a bazillion dollars in CNC machines to make an silencer.
Damn good job.

Not too knowledgeable about 3D. Can a used item be recycled; i.e. can you recover the brass insert as well as recover and remold the plastic for reuse? How about making it in various colors for the airsoft crowd? I imagine that unregulated silencers could be marketed to them as authentic.

Dude, that's awesome.

HPA needs to pass so that's a viable method. Keep us updated on how it holds up (fills up).

It is.

The plan was originally just to make a normal 22 can but I got lazy and decided to print it.

I think it will hold up fine as long as I''m not going full auto dumps with it.

This was more of an exercise to see if I could do it in a very simple way(I had printed silencers before when I worked for a 02/07 SOT/FFL but they where more complicated) and as good illustration of how stupid the law is regarding silencers.

If I shoot it enough that it doesn't work well anymore it will just end up on my shelf full on other interesting and odd gun stuff making a good conversion piece.

The brass can certainly be recovered a torch and some acetone will make quick work of the plastic, you could recover the plastic but it's not worth the effort or equipment to do anything useful with it.

I though about engraving the adapter as "silencer" but the reasons behind doing that really go against the spirit of the law and I wanted to be as much on the up and up as possible with this, so I engraved the most "silencer part" of the pieces, the baffle stack/tube combo.

Get you one of those coil extruders.   You can recycle old milk jugs and 70s luggage to make your own ABS filament.

The hardest part of cleaning a suppressor is that it is made of metal which corrodes the same as the metal you are cleaning. Simply dipping the suppressor in butches bore shine and soaking it (without getting the brass into the solution should be a viable option.

No. The plastic used looks like the line you put in a weedeater. Technically it probably could be salvaged, but it wouldn't be feasible for DIY.
I'd imagine OP can reuse the brass if that plastic dissolves in acetone.

It is feasible.  People have built these little crusher things (they look like commercial engine block crushers) that pulverizes the plastic then remelts the plastic and extrudes it through a nozzle and ever so slowly winds it around a new spool.

Mufflers are incredibly complex devices and the market totally isn't disturbed by an artificial and unfair barrier to entry due to licensing requirements for manufacturers as well as difficulty for buyers to obtain the product.

I like it.   Any crossection prints of the internals? What price get did you use?  The interlayer bond appears really good since it did not delaminate.
