Needs more tongue weight.

They do them with a concrete base. Not sure how big of a piece of concrete but I assume it will be about 6-8 yds. Do you know anybody in that field because you will also need the correct anchors.

Don't put it too close to your house!

my new idea for raising it is this.

1. get a local neighbor with a large tractor with a loader.
2. chain the bottom of the pole to one of the bolts set in concrete. ( so the pole base cannot kick out)
3. put a piece of chain around the pole, and attach to the bucket...

the tractor drives / raises the bucket and drives slowly foreward until the pole is vertical .... use my tractor bucket to raise and lower the vertical pole, while the much larger tractor is supporting it.... and set it down onto the mounting bolts.

this is the best plan I have... large tractors are easy to come by..... I think this would work well.

Not poking fun at the OP but this almost sounds like something that starts - "Here hold my beer."

Please be safe, 500 lbs falling on someone or something will not be good. Won't buff out.

For something like that, I would add an internal winch system, it'll go perfect in the base.

Check with a large electrical contractor. If you have everything ready, they could probably set it in place for a hour or two worth of time on a boom truck.

I had to have some work done on a ham radio antenna mounted on a 35' pole. The electrical contractor was on the property maybe 30 minutes and charged me $75.

I wont forget...

the nice thing about setting this thing up.... is its sturdy enough I COULD put a extension ladder against it if I needed too.... to fix something down the road.

I've seen PHD extensions for rent at the local rent-all.  Up to 6' IIRC.

hey thanks !  I will check the local rental place out... be nice to rent a auger extension / auger bit than having to buy one for a single use.

hey, thanks ! that's a good idea !

this will take me a while to bring together. I need materials first. I'm planning to buy a anchor bolt kit with 4- L shaped 1"x36" anchor bolts. then pick up a bunch of scrap rebar from the salvage yard.... calculate approx. concrete I will need, and start picking up the concrete, and storing it. I need the appropriate pulley system from a flag pole company, and hardware.

once I get all the materials together.... I can begin construction..  ( approx. july I guess )

first actual step will be digging / boring the shaft for the base pad.... then building the rebar cage and wiring in the anchor bolts...
step 2 will be renting / borrowing a concrete mixer and pouring the concrete. ( making sure the anchor bolts are correct, which is ANOTHER REASON why I want to use the removable base.  I can mount that base first / use it to make sure the alignment is correct.
step 3 will be having the pole set onto the base and bolting it into position.
step 4 will be retaining wall blocks around the pole and adding decorative gravel.
step 5 will be running a electric line to mount a spotlight.
step 6 will be ordering a big assed 6'x8' American flag, a standard Kentucky flag and a Gadsden flag.

the missing cover for the base.... I am going to replace with a 1/4" piece of stainless.... then send it off to have a quote from one of the founders, or something appropriate laser engraved into this cover plate....

hell... just a anchor bolt kit will be about $120.00 shipped.  with all the new house stuff I have planned / expenses it will take me prob 3 months to have everything ready to start building this.  but... it will be SUPER NICE, when its done.

it will be fine... I'm saying raise a aluminum ladder, with a chain around the top securing it to the pole... then ratchet strap it securely to the pole... that's one of the nice things about using this heavy assed pole... its secure as fuck and can support a ladder..

I would also use a climbing harness as well.....

You're working with something that was purposefully designed as a component of a complete system.

Just use it with the rest of the system.  Look up the manufacturer and buy the other parts you need.

Even in high wind, a flag is going to put less stress on the pole than the heavy and huge lights that it was designed for.  If you build it right, you could still have plenty of strength left over for a big fuckoff life-size (like 5' wingspan) bronze eagle.  Granted, a sculpture like that, a real one, will run you at least three grand.
