This can't be good for anyone.

The Royal Canadian Mint is investigating how a sealed, "pure gold" wafer with proper mint stampings may in fact be a fake.
The one-ounce gold piece, which was supposed to be 99.99 per cent pure, was purchased by an Ottawa jeweler on Oct. 18 at a Royal Bank of Canada branch. Yet tests of the bar show it may contain no gold at all.

This should be pretty earth shattering news, yet I doubt it hardly gets a comment from the talking heads and MSM.

You’d think that how quickly news like this spreads and can completely wreck your business that companies would steer clear of stupidity like this.

From the article: "Last November, 35-year-old Leston Lawrence was found guilty of smuggling $190,000 worth of gold pucks, each the size of a small muffin, in his rectum over several months."

Sounds like they have an integrity problem.

I thought Canada sold off the majority of its gold a year or so ago.

i remember seeing pictures of MANY, one kilo gold bars, that had been cut in half, showing the inside were tungsten rods.

at the time, it was a warning to potential gold investors, who wanted the 25,000 USD bar, to be careful of where you bought.

(i know that the 1 kilo bar is not currently worth 25,000 USD, but this was at the time i was looking for one)

Audit was done in the 50's and a viewing in the 70s, otherwise the cabinets have been sealed since then.

Yeah, I am going to say "nope" to any issue where faith in the government's word is given as evidence.

I think Ft. Knox let Lindsay Graham and another person in to view the stash earlier this year. I don't recall any statement from them about there being actual gold there.

The title seems to be quite misleading or inaccurate.

The guy bought gold from the Royal Bank of Canada (a commercial bank), NOT from the Royal Canadian Mint (a government institution).  I don't believe anything in the story actually supports the idea that "fake" gold is being produced at the Royal Canadian Mint. Instead, the implication is merely that people are faking gold bars ... hardly a new or interesting story ... and that the Royal Bank of Canada accidentally bought and resold a fake bar.

buying a fake American Gold Eagle from ebay isnt the same as buying fake gold from the Royal Bank of Canada.

If the fakes are getting so good, maybe I need to buy a stack of fakes for SHTF

The fakes have predominately come out of china and they are good (fakes).  They send them out with COA's, backings that are hard to differentiate between the real thing, etc. etc.  This isnt an isolated incident and happens frequently on Ebay for people dumb enough to buy there.

But a bank passing a fake 1oz bar......thats a big deal.  That means they either took it in with out verifying it or they buy from a shitty source. As someone that deals in raw gold on the daily, this bothers me.

From a few collectors and savers of gold I heard that the Canadian Gold coins are quite sought after. Some even hold them in as a more solid investment than many of Gold coins from around the world.
