I was thinking Inconel and not stainless. Either that or some kind of cladding with stainless and another material.

But to my surprise, it's actually stainless, although formed differently.

I have a hard time believing that's that's a flight worthy rocket.  Proportions look wrong, especially the engines.  I'll be happy to be proven wrong, but I think that's simply a mock up.  Thoughts?

It's a VTOL craft to test software and hardware, like the "Grasshopper" SpaceX made a few years ago. It won't go to space.

Man if they did that on a large scale with a giant rocket that's gonna really change our approach to interplanetary travel.

That's the way Starship is designed to work. Everything about it starts from first principles to cheaply deliver large amounts of cargo or people to LEO, the Moon, or Mars.

-Booster is reusable, lands right back on launch pad
-Upper stage is reusable, lands nearby and is hoisted back on
-Can refuel itself in LEO to go into higher orbits, to the moon, or to Mars.

Starship is the real deal. It's what the Space Shuttle should have been.

It ejects a ninja smoke bomb, and then regurgitates them while you’re distracted.

Orion test flight this year. We shall see. NASA is working. The main thing they're doing is cooperating with SpaceX.

I went to Kennedy Space Center over the Christmas break, and was impressed by what I saw. From the displays, to the talks, they don't seem to want to compete with SpaceX, but to make it a beneficial partnership. We noticed the Blue Origin building outside the gates also, btw. Boeing, SpaceX, NASA... They seem to be on the same page.

Not much happening right now at KSC other than non NASA private company work or NASA essential ops. Went in yesterday for some ISS essential work.

AA2 was getting serviced for it's test flight but work has stopped on it due to the shutdown, one of many areas I have responsibilities to.

Spacex is a service provider, there is no competition between them and NASA even though so many people on the outside think or want there to be.
I'm glad the visitors center is helping with communicating these things.

Yeah, our bus tour to the launch pads was canceled due to the shutdown. Fully refunded though. I thought it was really interesting to see a whole bunch of SpaceX merchandise in the gift shop. I think it's really apparent that NASA views them as partners.

If one looks carefully at the articulating landing gear of the grasshopper compared to the Boca Chica behemoth, there’s night and day difference between the two. Musk replied “yes” to a tweet asking if shock-absorbing feet would be added to the fins, so I guess he does really plan to fly it. However, I still say it looks very crudely constructed for something that’s going to fly, even if it travels no more than 100 feet in altitude

The source info is incorrect. Starship & Raptor development is being done out of our HQ in Hawthorne, CA. We are building the Starship prototypes locally at our launch site in Texas, as their size makes them very difficult to transport.

I will shill for you in exchange for a discounted lunar flyby ticket.

I post all day on Reddit, 4chan, Twitter and ARFCom. I have a proven track record as a thought leader. It's well worth the investment.
