Yes he was. He killed it in the MIB films, but my favorite film (only saw it once and the name escapes me) in which he played a rancher in the late 1800's who had sent off for a mail order wife. He was a Scottish immigrant and the diluted accent was perfect.

Just watched the movie 'April Morning' last week about the Revolutionary battles of Lexington and Concord with Rip Torn as an instigator of the American Revolution.

My favorite Rip Torn role was the short part he had in “Flash Point” with Kris Kristofferson and Treat Williams (1984) and of course the Larry Sanders Show.

Well, Godspeed to him, I was always a fan.  One of my favorite roles of his was the guy who had to spend the night in a haunted house

I watched this a while back. He's so young and looks so different from the crotchy old guy we've come to expect.

I found out this morning that he grew up around Temple, TX and even attended Texas A&M for a while, but I don't think he graduated.

Playing Artie was probably the pinnacle of his career.
It also seemed the most natural for him.
He often outshone the star of the show.

Yeah, FWIW(?), that's the old Bate's house from Hitchcock's "Psycho" in that episode.  I drank a Coke on that porch back in '72....lol
