There are usually 2 assholes in these incidents, not defending him but I bet there's a bunch more to this.

I bet both were being morons.

Might be a little high but pretty close to average.  If that seems high you have to keep in mind this is in the city with the highest cost of living in the county.  He'd be lucky to be able to afford a decent 1 bedroom apartment on that income.

Yes, on that department with some OT. It would be considered low for all the other PDs in the city/area.

Lol that's not really true.  Maybe in downtown Manhattan he might live paycheck to paycheck, but there are other places to live.

There are plenty of people doing just fine on way less than 122k / yr in NYC.

One of my friends (not LE) got involved in road rage deal. Some people have a need to scold other folks for their bad driving.

Up until it leads to a confrontation with a convicted felon, armed with an AK, a pistol and bunch of dope. And the police arrest almost everyone. She won't do that again.

I had an LE co-worker that even though very senior in a HQ job, could not stop calling in stops for very minor things otw to work in his unmarked car. At least a couple a month. More than half of them wound up with a complaint. Some created pursuits, but all of them created arguments and required (SOP) a marked car from the local area to arrive and take over.

They couldn't tell him to stop, but when they started assigning all the internal investigations to his supervisor (these are very tedious, highly procedural investigations) which set your other work aside, he was essentially begged to knock it the fuck off.

He managed to get it down to 1 or 2 a quarter.

Some people just won't leave well enough alone.

From a FOIA request from a few years ago.

NYPD officers are allowed to live in New York City, on Long Island, or in approved Upstate counties. According to the data:

58 percent of NYPD officers live in New York City

17 percent live in Queens

16 percent live in Brooklyn

11 percent live in the Bronx

10 percent live on Staten Island

26 percent live on Long Island (Nassau or Suffolk Counties)

13 percent live in approved Upstate counties (Rockland, Westchester, Putnam, or Orange Counties)

Less than 1 percent live in specially-approved, non-standard counties

That's not even close to a lot in the metro NYC area.
From the neighboring county where OT abounds:

According to payroll records, Fabre had total pay of $326,950 in 2017. But he had just a base salary of $122,514, according to records previously posted by Newsday.

Not in NYC, 30 to the max allowable 45 day suspension without pay is standard when a cop there gets arrested.
