I wonder what the Tribe will do to the walk experience as a result of this negative publicity. It is a shame because this is such a beautiful and inspiring place it is difficult to imagine doing something to selfish there before it all, God and Country.

Meh, that's nothing.  They'll charge you two or three hundred dollars per person just to cross through a corner of the Wind River reservation to access US Forest Service and Wilderness lands.

I have a buddy at worked named Geronimo ( I call him "G-MO" ) so I would say....maybe but I doubt it?

G-MO is definitely NOT rassist.

North Rim is best Rim. Try hitting it up as late in the fall as you can, before they shut down.

Went there after CWW.  CWW is about as close as you would ever get to the Skywalk without intending to go to it (from the turnoff to CWW, the res is about 20 more miles-geographically it was next door and after driving 1800 miles to CWW felt obligated to see the big ditch too).  I think someone jumped from a different site slightly before then - so they were pretty paranoid about letting people near the edge.

I don’t know if all the Grand Canyon “parks” operate like Skywalk - But I can assure you I never want to step foot on that Indian reservation again.  One thing after another put me in a terrible mood.  All I wanted to do is see the big ditch when I was in the neighborhood.  First problem is I did not do my research so did not realize it was on a res - 2nd amendment does not apply on the res.  So here I am with an “arsenal” behind the seat in my truck (Suppressed CWAR and CWock, my carry Glock, about a dozen mags and a several hundred left over rounds of ammo), 30 miles into the res and “No officer, I don’t have any “weapons””.  Well technically a weapon is something used to attack or defend against an attack - I was not lying, I only had range toys...  Then they charged almost $100 bucks for me to take a 5 mile buss ride and get tickets to the skywalk.  But I was not allowed to walk near the edge because I might jump.  And as for the Skywalk, could not walk around it either as 1/2 was closed off for professional photographers.  Oh, and you could not take pictures yourself, all cameras, phones, and keys had to be put into lockers...  Plus was pretty dehydrated, but all the fucking concessions were closed - so could not even buy a fucking water...

Then again, I was hung over from hell too, so that did not help my mood any.

The wife and I went to that side of the Canyon in '11 or '12. Caught a bus Tour at the MGM Grand where we were staying. The Tribe that has possession of that side of the Canyon isn't much on hand rails and safety railing. The story was they wanted to keep the attraction "natural". That walkway was built by the RED Chinese and the Reds maintain and get the profit from the walkway admission for the first 40 years or so. Then they give it to the Indians, well worn I'm sure. The hand rail(on the Indian controlled part, everything except the Walkway) consists of a piece of flagstone stood vertically with a 2" hole bored thru it and an 1-1/2 piece of rope ran thru the hole . No attendants visible. I was ten feet on the wrong side of the rail and the wife is telling me to "back up" so she could take my photo and I was telling her Hell No. The footing is uneven and an accident likely.

Evidemtly he didm't bounce very well if he only went down 800'.

It is about 4,000' to the bottom, so it must not be straight down.

We had to give our statements and turn in all evidence. It's awful to feel that you didn't do enough to help someone. After my statement and videos were given to the Park Rangers I received an email stating he was alive with very life  threatening injuries. They could not provide any further information on the case.

I was a lineman when I was younger. No issues with poles, boom lifts or tall ladders hanging from hooks on the line between poles.

But no way am I walking out on that thing.

These two may be among the best, but they sure don't look like the brightest that close to the edge, with their backs to it. (and the load from a backback, plus the dubious footing)

When you fly out from Las Vegas and have lunch at the bottom of the canyon you don't have to put up with any of that. I don't even remember if there was a metal detector.  I know in Hawaii there wasn't.
