On March 15, 1952, the USS Wisconsin (BB-64), an Iowa-class battleship, sustained its first and only direct hit from a North Korean 155mm gun battery, resulting in minor damage and three injured sailors.
In a powerful display of naval strength, the Wisconsin retaliated with a devastating salvo from its nine 16-inch guns, obliterating the enemy position. This incident was responded to by a sister ship with the message “Temper, Temper,”. |

The war of 1812:
Less than four days after the attack began, a heavy thunderstorm, possibly a hurricane and a tornado, extinguished the fires and caused further destruction. The British occupation of Washington, D.C. lasted for roughly 26 hours. View Quote You know how hurricane prone Washington DC is. The Brits: muhahaha we will take advantage of ur young nation muhahaha God: >extinguishes the fires >sinks ur ships >drives you away What did Patrick Henry mean by this? Sir, we are not weak if we make a proper use of those means which the God of nature hath placed in our power. Three millions of people, armed in the holy cause of liberty, and in such a country as that which we possess, are invincible by any force which our enemy can send against us. Besides, sir, we shall not fight our battles alone. There is a just God who presides over the destinies of nations; and who will raise up friends to fight our battles for us. The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave. View Quote |

One of them was a historical fiction about Valentine’s Day, which seemed pretty gay to little me. Didn’t watch much of it, but I do remember that he married Christian couples in the woods outside Rome, and was killed for it. As I grew older, and more…contrary…that idea took on strong meaning for me. I resolved that when I married, it would be, metaphorically, in the woods outside Rome. And we were. There was no marriage certificate filed. My pastor performed the ceremony in front of our family, close friends, and God, and no government functionary was involved. |

The more I think about the difference between the mind and the brain the more I wonder how far science could go if the universities didn't beat religion out of people.
Everyone has these common stories about a loved one waiting for them before they died, or talking to a person incapable of speech but responds with a tear or a smile. Women look totally different but men fall in love with a specific one, why? We know we have a brain that fires signals, but where does our source of wonder come from? Why are we the only species which cares for a variety of different animals for totally different purposes? How is it both humans and animals can "feel" when they're being stared at? |
