It's the sort of thing you can do when your last car was dominant as fuck.

In theory, it just snowballs. Obviously, there will more than likely be diminishing returns on the development, but everyone else has a giant mountain to climb.

You could have given everyone exact copies of the RB19 and they would still have been at a huge disadvantage on just experience on how to use the car (set up, etc). To that same end, if everyone moves in the RB direction for 2024, they still have to learn how to maximize the potential. Maybe someone lands on a better version, but the odds are slim.

That should be a "guess how many times it happens", not a "yes/no".

Considering asking a question similar to the Gasly/Ocon crash into eachother, maybe Merc is a good alternative for this season.

I vaguely remember the original form of this video getting posted last year, but not sure about this updated version.
This version includes all the original footage cut in, plus another hour+ of additional footage of these guys absolutely dissecting the MP4/4
at the workshop of Paul Lanzante.

I found this while looking for references for the 1/12 MP4/4 model I got a couple months ago, and needless to say, it's an absolute treasure
trove of details and information.
I would gladly PAY for long form, deep dive videos, like this one, of dozens of other classic race cars I can think of! (Can I request
a 512M video please!? )

It's Lord of the Rings long, but if you put it on in the background as you're doing other things, it's very fascinating.

Kinda surprised it lasted this long.

I figured it was a matter of time before either Guenther or Gene Haas were out of the picture.  DTS has shown plenty of clips where Gene was annoyed by Guenther's "oh well, we suck and can't do anything about it" attitude.

Yup. His "awe shucks, we're a bunch of wankahs" attitude was crazy to me. I get being upset, as I would be, but he never seemed to have a plan to course correct. Obviously that show doesn't really give the whole story but he never seemed to have a fix. I mean, he really didn't fix anything.

I’m not the least bit surprised. They had the 4th fastest car on the grid in 2018 and shit the bed after that. They wrote off the entire 2021 season to focus on the new regs and finished last in the championship in 2023. It’s been a long time coming.

The business model of a 3rd party building the car doesn’t work. Maybe that gets a bit better with them now “working closely with Ferrari” at the Haas Maranello design office. Comparing all of the other team structures, they are a bunch of wankers.

Gene owns a highly coveted and valued sports franchise that needs fundamental structural changes if they ever want to win. To that end, Gunther might have been a casualty of that argument or a casualty of new money coming in to make that happen.

ETA: If I was dropping a couple hundred million for a percentage of Haas with the intentions of modernizing and normalizing production/research/operations, Gunther leaving would be part of the deal.

I get not wanting to through good money after bad, but at some point you have to either pay the price to be competitive or cut your losses. Maybe not... if he's still making a profit by being the worst team on the grid, I guess there must not be much of an incentive to forking out that cash.

An internal promotion to Team Principal. I'm not optimistic. Haas's model has failed, and if Andretti come in and take it seriously (and there is every sign they will) Haas will be out before long.

There are no shortcuts in F1. You have to spend money, and a lot of it.

Racing-wise 100% but after a quick google search, Haas is profits are north of 10 or 11 mil. Maybe that's good enough for Gene.

Haas is a bad buy currently. Even on the worst team, the “franchise” valuation is around $500 million and you wouldn’t be getting much for it. A smallish facility in England and a “design” studio in Maranello. Ferrari would also would need to approve the continuation of relations for both components and the design department.
