Word is the Ryzen 9800X3D will be out at the end of October.
 EDIT: Looks like AMD will tweak the X3D cpu's and not just add 3D cache.  9800X3D CPUs are coming WAY sooner than expected! IMPORTANT INFO! |

 Also there is a rumor that both the 9950X3D and 9900X3D will have extra cache on both the CCD's.

Single CCD CPUs should have 64mb of Vcache.
I'm guessing they accidentally added the on-die L3 with the Vcache to get 96mb... |

That would be nice. My x570 motherboard took a crap earlier today and I just ordered a new one. I had been planning on keeping my 3900x alive until I could build a new one around a 9900x3d before GTA 5 comes out. I have been working so much overtime lately that I know I can afford the parts, but I'm not sure if I will have time to build it.

Motherboard prices.
 Motherboard prices are a bit pricey for not much of an update. Chip-set comparison from AMD's web site.  I have a Asrock B650E Taichi motherboard with the optional USB 4.0 port on the back. So the only AM5 motherboard upgrade would be a X870E, and its not really giving me much more than I already have, just a few more PCIe lanes, USB ports (Depending on the motherboard) and faster ram options but the way AM5 works that's not a huge gain at speeds above 6000. The X870 non E has the same specs as I currently have on my B650E motherboard. The B850 would be a downgrade. So if you have a B650E, X670 or X670E you have zero reason to upgrade the board, spend that money on other hardware unless there are specific options that you need on X870. |

My 5950x on a x570mb and an 7900xt seems fine for the occasional word doc and the 90% of time im watching YouTube. Do fire off the MSFS 2020sim occasionally tho.

Very interesting video, the 5800X3D is still very competitive depending on the game in Windows 11 ver 24H2
I just looked around and it looks like the 5800X3D is hard to find now at a decent price but the 5700X3D is available and much cheaper and only a little slower.  Ryzen 7 5800X3D vs. 9700X, 3D V-Cache Still Going Hard! |

Looks like 9800X3D and 9950X3D performance slides have leaked from MSI.
These are engineering samples, so maybe not quite the performance of the retail cpu's. The 9800X3D has a little better performance than the 7800X3D which is good because the 7800X3D is very hard to come by and getting pricey.  Ryzen 9800X3D and 9950X3D gaming and Cinebench benchmarks!!! |

Looks like Zen 5 was a hard reset with a whole new design on roughly the same node with an extreme focus on density improvements.
They added quite a bit more capability and drastically reduced the physical size of the cache in the CCD to keep it roughly the same size as a Zen4 CCD and keeping power consumption about the same or a bit less in some cases. Same IOD, so no big updates or improvements to power/performance from there. They obviously need to move to a new node to get a substantial PPA increase, N4P for the IOD will likely be the last with some scaling and N3(P) for the CCD, while also getting some low hanging fruit from the new design. Intel had to reset as well this generation... removing SMT to save ~50w off their ~300w 14900k. But the funny part is, they said they focused on lowering power consumption this generation so the had more headroom in the future, implying they will need it to have noticeable performance increases. |

Had to make a trip to Microcenter for something else, so grabbed a 9700x combo while I was there. Came with Gigabyte X AX board. It needed a bios update to post. It's more than enough CPU for me.
