Unfortunately I’ve had to interact with someone who did prison time for pedo shit.
He said everyone knows when you get there. “Pull your card” or some bullshit. The only person who ever gave him shit for it was a guard. Violence between gang members was all that ever really happened. He said the long term gang members were the only ones that fucked dudes, usually the younger members of their own gangs. He said the Mexicans typically don’t but bikers and black gang bangers fucked each other like rabbits. |

Snake River penitentiary is local to me and I know about a dozen COs there. Chomos are in their own wing and rarely get fucked with by other prisoners. I am not sure about the hate crime thing though.

I know a guy in prison for child sex crimes. A lot of them.
He isn’t protected by anything special, he just doesn’t talk about what he did. |

Most prisons have specific units for sex offenders some units are designated incentive and take x amount of clear conduct to live in. These will house both solid and non solid inmates. Guys programming and doing their own time.
If a SO ends up on a regular GP unit they are either extorted and pay rent or they get assaulted/ forced to PC up. Source -10 years state corrections. |

It's not a hate crime if we don't see it.
Really it depends. Did the pedo get beat because he fuks kids or did he get smacked because he was doing something he shouldn't have ie Stole property, talked shit or snored to loud. |

I have an in-law waiting to go to prison for online solicitation of a minor and child porn. Is he considered a sex offender by prison standards? He’s in Texas. I hope he gets a non air conditioned prison. I hope he does all 15 years.

They are not specifically targeted. 90% of the time most inmates will just keep there distance, along with staff. The pedo pretty much keep to themselves in little groups, playing d&d in the day room. Some will split and whore themselves out willing. Either for $ or to find someone high up in the various groups and become their special friend for protection. |

Chomo.
Baby Raper Diaper Sniper. There are many terms for child predators. While some sex offenders are child predators, not all of them are. There are many other sex crimes rather than child crimes. We segregate sex offenders, (S.O.), from General Population, (G.P.) for safety. However, inside the SO yards there is always hierarchy as well, and diaper snipers are the lowest of the low. I watched one new fish brag to inmates on the yard about how much liked how little boys smelled. He went out in an ambulance that night - some of the SOs listening weren't amused. Yes, they got handled properly - we don't allow "street justice" any more than street cops. We had a split yard at one time, SO on one side, GP on the other. We were taking bets on how long it would be before the center spline fence got torn down. Amazingly enough, didn't happen. On the other hand, occasionally you will see a GP "hideout" on an SO yard, due to politics being much less of a problem with SOs. It's not often, because when an inmate moves into a new unit, he will be called for "his papers" from a head, and if there is a unit on there that is an SO unit, he will be labeled an SO for the rest of his time, no matter if he was a hideout or not. SOs tend to be older and easier to manage, with longer sentences, which is why the private prisons LOVE SOs. Yes, we call them shanks, but for documentation it's "prison made weapon". Nobody uses the term shiv out here, that I have ever heard. It's amazing how many times a guy can get stabbed and still live. FYI, going on 23 years behind the wire. Seen a few things over the years. |

View Quote As for PREA that is a real thing and handled very carefully. No, it isn't handled as a hate crime - I have never once seen any criminal act inside prison handled as a hate crime. Doesn't mean it didn't happen - I've never heard of it, and I've worked in multiple units and complexes in my time. As for "we didn't see it, wink wink, nudge nudge" - there are two phrases that come to mind. Deliberate Indifference, and Conditions of Confinement. If you deliberately not report an inmate on inmate assault because the victim was an SO or a child predator, you will learn how important these phrases are, especially when YOU get sentenced. Bad juju. |

Two anecdotes:
Kid I knew growing up got sentenced to a year in jail for statutory rape (he was 19, she was 15, the sheriff didn't like his dad...). Inmates in jail liked him and he was treated fairly well, due to his education and willingness to help other inmates with legal issues (got nicknamed Professor). Years later I had a trustee help me clean blood and flesh put of a cruiser for two hours. Spent the time chatting, guy had an entire story for how he was serving a few year prison sentence in jail (by choice) rather than DOC. Looked him up when I left, and his charges were actually child crimes. He had obviously crafted an entire story about DUI manslaughter to explain himself to anyone who asked...because he didn't want to risk fallout if they knew his actual sentence. |

I had an uncle that was locked up in both San Quentin and Pelican Bay l, he was a member of the Mexican Mafia and i can tell you from listening to the stories he told that most of the inmates would gladly kill a child molester in the prison yard. What is being charged with a hate crime going to do to a guy that is serving 4 life sentences? Nothing.
