The 5.0 doesn't like going 10k on the same oil, you can get VCT solenoid issues (I had them), it's a known issue. It's a high compression V8, it can be sensitive to oil. After/around 6k, I'll notice, it will start running like shit. It's an investment, I don't mind spending the money.

It's been discussed on the F150forums, I didn't just conjure it up in my head. Some people use a catch can, I don't.

Just reset the oil life meter on your truck.

If you have a 5.0, you should be changing the oil every 5k, 4k in some situations.

Why?

I can't tell you what it is but at 70k mi on my 2019 doing 7500+ oil changes, it would start running rougher at idle as you were getting closer to the oil change, particularly when the engine was hot.

Eventually, it started running rough all the time, I diagnosed it as bad VCTs.  Changed them and the problem went away.  I'm doing 5k oil changes now because pulling the passenger valve cover is a PITA.  I use only full synthetic oil.

Yeah... i'm not using normal oil. Or what most people think of when they say 'full synthetic.'

Chevy stopped issuing manuals and wants $90 for a copy (price/S&H/tax)  if you want to order one - pisses me off.

Can't access online manual if in a deadspot like my local walmart and the local walmart's reference manuals that use to hang in the oil/filter area are now also online using a QR code  - in a frigging deadspot!

You can't log maintenance in the manual that doesn't exist (they don't put a maintenance section in the quickie manual they provide) - I threw a notebook in my truck glovebox to track it.  Seems like my oil life monitor usually prompts for an oil change around 6500-7000 miles.

That's great unless you suddenly need to prove you've been changing the oil because you have a warranty claim. For my car, which is out of warranty, I just rest trip meter b when I change the oil. My truck doesn't even have 20k miles on it so I document everything just in case there's a failure before the warranty expires.

The old version of Ford Pass allowed you to upload receipts and write what you did on a certain date. That's one of the useful features that disappeared with an update.

LOL. I can start the truck, make sure it's locked, unlock it for someone else, etc, from anywhere with a cell signal. The fob is good for what, 50-75 yards?

Replacing the VCT solenoids is a roughly $1000 job, just so you know. The parts are really cheap though.

I used synthetic since 1500mi change. I'm trying to give F150 owners a heads up. Don't be an ass.

Same here, mine started around 50k or so, got worse. Then after 60k it would occasionally shut down at a stop light/sign. Then it did it a couple of times when I started pulling away. Like I mentioned, it's a common event, even the dealership (they covered it under powertrain) said it is very common. I supose I'll be doing it again in 50-60k. I watched a video on doing it, the parts are cheap, the process is fairly involved.

I told them to replace all the solinoids, I would pay for the parts, I think my service advisor was drunk. They replaced the one that read bad . It doesn't idle smoothly, but not as bad and the truck doesn't turn itself off, yet. Forscan doesn't give me any codes, it did when the truck was having the other issues.

Carfax does not actually put the records in the system that is shared. If you put a record in Carfax, it is only for you and nobody else can see it. I would bet that the system for DIY works the exact same way.

Today, in my shop. I think I’ll be alright. If I need one of my guys to put some parts on.

I also know significantly more about engine oils than the people on F150 forums.  And actually more about engine oils than probably the vast majority of power train engineers.

And, as I said, I’m not using your run of the mill full synthetic.  I’m using Redline Euro 5w30.  And I’m using it in a 2024 5.0, inside of a Mustang S650 GT performance pack.

You made a blanket statement.  And can’t even explain why it happened, just, that something happened.  So, I’m going to prove you wrong.

I’m already over 5000 miles on it. I’ll clear 7500 soon.

I’m in the same boat.  I had no idea you could log them on the app.  I prefer a paper trail.  I buy oil filters at the dealer and put them on my account.  That way the dealer’s documenting my oil changes.
