I'm pretty much down to one job left i'm in the running for again after having about 4 i went through multiple interviews on over the last month (doesn't count the ton i've applied and interviewed for since about march). I've got 4 fucking more interviews to go after having interviewed the recruiter and the hiring manager though lol. So many of them just get canceled or filled internally after having 2-3 interviews with weeks long gaps between each one.
On a somewhat better note my current job seems to be getting less shitty. Or at least I'm going to be engaged more (in a good way) to keep me busy enough on doing shit they are actually paying me to do instead of asinine bullshit and dealing being stuck between business units fighting with each other like a bunch of petty bitches. I've hit this point in my career where I can't really get better so I get easily frustrated with lack of efficiency and unnecessary bureaucracy or just constant changes due to people leaving and a new person coming in wanting to put their mushroom stamp on a perfectly good process/tool/system. Just let me do my fucking job, i'm a fucking SME. Get out of the way to help me help you. I could be a VP somewhere if I really wanted but I don't think the juice is worth the squeeze in probably 95% of the instances. I've also thought about going back to a direct billable customer facing position again. It would probably take a 25-40% paycut but i'd have better hours and more challenging work. The problem is trying to convince someone to let me do that again due to my higher salary and being more BD/Capture for so long now. I'm kind of stuck in this weird salary/experience area where there's no good way to change so I kind of feel trapped. At least the money's good though and i'm fully remote with this position so I try to remind myself that fairly often while trying not to drink myself to death. |

I've been getting a ton of req cancelation notices this month. Not sure if because that coincides with new fiscal years and/or quartlery/yearly earnings from the companies that are publicly traded or what.
Plenty of "we went with someone else" notices too. Plenty are also still festering that i've applied to, some 4+ months ago. |

I'm looking for work. Been out of work for a little over a month. Been looking since last November. Interview rate is about .1% of applications. Ironically, the only the interviews I have had are for applications I didn't tailor to the job req or include a cover letter. None of this market makes sense.
I couldn't get a first round interview for a job auditing the construction standard I coauthored using a scope of work I coauthored with a referral from the other author who was the customer of the company I applied to. They didn't hire anyone for the role so might turn into something one day but no telling. This is the shittiest job market in my lifetime. |

Yesterday I learned there's guys with Petroleum Engineering degrees doing the same job I'm doing.
I'm currently doing the stahtah jahb for fresh out of school geologists, and is a fall back for us in when times are moderately hard. PEs not being able to find something better probably means we are in pretty serious trouble. |
