I have a vintage Wilton Bullet with 5 inch jaws.  It's a beast.

For my part, I have zero issue with Taiwanese quality. Their manufacturing is not CCP manufacturing. They actually value quality
and produce good stuff.
I just like to support American manufacturing when and where I am able to. Manufacturing should be a point of American pride
and a key component of our strategic independence. It's a national shame that we've ceded that to Asian countries and I'd
like to send a message that we want more manufacturing to happen here.

But there are times when the price vs return is so out of proportion, it's not always easy to do.

The body is aluminum, not sure about the master jaws. The slide is all steel.

Yeah, ironically I just saw it...meant to be the tougher version.   Still, if it's not an adjustable anvil I'm going to feel bad using it like one.

Orange original bench vise. Accept no substitutes. It is the best on the market!

This Columbian D45-M4 needs to get sandblasted and a coat of boiled linseed oil applied.

Just get a used American, there are plenty for a couple hundred that will last your lifetime. It's just silly to buy a new bench vise. Craigslist, auctions, marketplace etc. Garage sales or estate sales.

Parkerize it after sandblasting.

Can you park cast iron?

It appears you can.

Not sure I want to invest in the equipment to do that.

If you come across a RIDGID 66987 it's made of steel in Europe and a damn good vise for around $600.

Cerakote?

I have considered that.

I was also informed about Sculpt Nouveau metal oil.

I still need to get it to the blast cabinet.  I've got the mineral spirits and boiled linseed oil now.

I have several old Wilton bullet vises in a variety of sizes. Recently I picked up used but nearly new Wilton 5" Mechanics Vise with swivel base for $20. When I went to get it, I was expecting a not so nice Chinese vise, but figured I could use the swivel base for a different Vise at least. In all honesty, it's a well made, powder coated, nicely finished vise. It doesn't have the same charm as the older vises but I can't call it a POS in any way.
