The surgeon that my Dr referred me to will only do mesh.  I had a coworker years ago that had mesh used for a hernia in his abdomen and it got ugly.  He ended up having to have it cut out later down the road.

Are there still issues with the current meshes that are used, or has it been replaced with a newer product?

I've had mesh since the early 1990's.  Have not had any issues.

I've had mesh for 5 or 6 years now as part of a inguinal repair. No issues, felt a little weird right after but it's not noticeable now.

Per my surgeon, many of the issues were related to an older style of mesh.

It's held up jusrt fine and no problems.

This is what I Was thinking. Doesn't the mesh allows them to make a much smaller incision and for the surgery to be less intrusive? Maybe something about robotic surgery too? Or maybe I have it all confused. I have a hernia I would like to have repaired.

My surgeon told me I could hit it as hard as I wanted the day after. Of course she knew I wouldn’t want to. I don’t think there’s anything to keep you from setting PRs if that’s your thing.

They are only doing the mesh now because the chance of it coming back is like 2%. Laparoscopic is the way to go. 2 pieces of advice 2 big bags of frozen peas and some murolax. Ibuprofen should be enough. Mesh is fine.

I had mesh put in for an Inguinal hernia about 14 years ago. I don't know exactly how large it was but I recall the doctor commenting that it was a large hernia. That said, I have had no issues with the mesh.

I had an inguinal hernia repaired with mesh in November 2023.  I didn't follow the Dr's instructions and lifted things I shouldn't have too soon.  Tore it and had to have it done again January of this year.  Mesh again.  So far...no problems.

Twenty Years after the first one all of a sudden while rolling out of bed to get ready for work, Boom I got a paralyzing pain from the front of my right hip to my tail bone. i thought i was dying, the pain disappeared within 5 minutes
and it was like it never happened  to this day once or twice a year this happens. The mesh presses on a nerve and you would not believe the pain it causes. There was a episode on 60 minutes about it.

I’ve been reasonable.

I took 8 days off after surgery. My first day back I was squatting the empty bar.
