MA is 20% of the popular vote margin, Ca is 66% of the popular vote margin, NY is 57% of the popular vote margin... So we have 143% of the popular vote margin in 3 states...forget about the rest of the states. That is not how it works. You can't effectively do that, you have to talk GROSS to GROSS, it's the only way the #'s make sense and the math doesn't break giving you >100%. You're basically following the book on, "How to Lie with Statistics" by Darrell Huff. So look gross to gross and derive your percentages that way to tell an accurate story that scales to all 50 states AND can be back tracked: If we do that the GROSS total votes are 71mil, CA cast 4mil for trump, that's 5% of the victory. Then you can extrapolate that across all 50 states, the #'s will add up, and the story is legit. And it still makes your underlying point, use WY as an example. Trump won that state BIGLY. Trump got 200,000, Kamala got 70,000. Trump won that state HUGE. But to your point that state didn't contribute much at all to the landslide popular vote win nationally. It was only 00.002% So not only would the math make sense, the numbers would still show the same thing. CA, NY, MA were massively important in the popular vote totals even without getting a single electoral vote in any of those states. |

In terms of the Presidency: A person's vote counts the most if their state is a battleground state where the electorate is pretty much very close to bein 50-50.
Otherwise it doesn't mean diddly squat except for "brownie points" because that is what the popular vote really is. It does give an overall measure of the sentiment of the entire country and serves as a guide post for legislative decisions for congress. And policy making decisions for the President. In a very lopsided state the person who belongs to the minority party; there vote means nothing. For example: I live in a very deep blue state. In my state I'm outnumbered 3 to 1. In my current county: I'm outnumbered 2 to 1. My best bet for having my vote count is during non-presidential elections, where I am voting for a person running for a local office. Like a city council or a school board official. Or maybe a local bond measure (I vote against these). My vote won't matter to even my district's state representative let alone anyone running for federal office. Before I moved, in my last county, I was only outnumbered by about 1.2 to 1. So my vote for Sheriff, city council, bond measures, state representative, made a much larger difference during non-Presidential elections. The LAST time my state voted for a Republican Candidate for President was in 1988. Yep. I live in California. And believe it or not it used to be a conservative state, so was Colorado, Oregon and Washington...but that all changed...and it went so far off the deep end, changing it back is impossible in my lifetime. The only thing I can do is to move to another state. One where ultra-conservative people like myself would be welcome. And either play defense (politically) to a red state, or move to a real battleground state and make a difference: like PA |

There are more Republican congressman from California than there are from many "red" states. It really is amazing how many people think voting means once every four year and president is the only thing important. President is the most diluted vote. Your vote doesn't directly elect the president. The president doesn't make any laws. Things that happen at the state and local levels actually affect your life more directly and much more. Half the people probably can't tell you who their current sentators, rep and in some cases who the vice president is. |
|
|
the reverse is also true, all those blue voters in red states
|
|
So this is what it looks like from inside looking out at the death of a republic.
|
If a state is 60-40 and the minority gets out to vote, they probably still lose however the vote total might end up being more like 53-47% That's still an 6 point spread and not really close... But next time, in their strategy meetings, the majority party has to plan on running campaign ads and other resources there to shore up their majority because it's not safe.
As a side note, it sure would be funny to spread the word around to everyone to lie to pollsters about who you will vote for. That would throw all their calculations way off. |

Local is what REALLY matters for your day to day lives. The national level shit is mostly white noise. Then there is understanding your district. My district has two reps. I think it's because leftists are always talking about the popular vote, it sure motivated me to at least contribute something to shut them up.
Also something felt different this year, we had rallies on overpasses, lots more trump flags and signs. The lower income areas had 95% of the trump stuff, all the white elite towns are libs/ukraine/blm signs. It's hard for me to put in to words how out of touch the democrat party is represented here. I'm in the most 'tarded of all the blue states (VT) and definitely outnumbered here but l ALWAYS vote.
This time my town nearly went for Trump, Harris only won by about .5%. We got rid of the weirdo pervert D/Prog Lieutenant governor and got an R in instead. We blocked the DEI liberal yoga instructor and her posse from getting a foothold in my town. We got rid of the Dem supermajority in the state legislature. My one little vote added to Trumps popular vote. Yeah not as much national impact as if I was in a swing state but overall it was positive even though I'm trapped in the deep blue. I will never not vote. |

I live in a blue state. I have lived in two other blue states. I have never missed an election and some times we get lucky once in a while.
At some point people begin to figure it out. NJ and VA were pretty close all things considered. MA and northern MA/ ME not so much. ME and NH are now full of liberals who fled their commie utopias to the south because curiously they no longer wanted to live there in retirement because it was becoming a shithole. They brought their missionary politics with them along with their inflated egos of how great they are. |
