Im looking to start saving up for a semi auto .308 battle rifle.
Im in between the CETME and the cheaper FALs. I need to keep it below $800. FAL fits the bill, and so does the CETME, and is a bit cheaper. So what say the hive? CETME or Century Arms FAL? |
Quoted: M1A. lol, just ignoring the whole 800 or below price thing huh? Op, I like the cetmes but if you are getting a new one realize that it has probably been fucked up by the monkeys at century...ask me how I know. The fuck ups are generally easy to fix though. |
I had a CETME years ago and it was crap...also I relly do not like the rear sight on them....it just looks freaky.
Neither. Save up your pennies and get a DSA FAL clone. It's better to save money in the long run by paying now, rather than wasting precious currency on junk that will give later on. |
Quoted: A CETME is an ergonomic train wreck. this is true, you would have to have Andre the Giant hands to hit the damn mag release. |
Between the 2 choices, FAL, no question. If I were you and was looking for a moderately priced .308, I would shop around for a Polytech M14s
Saiga???
I voted FAL since I used to have one and loved it. Unfortunately I sold it before I joined the CG because my parents wouldn't keep my guns in their house and my friend won't sell it back to me. Although it was a Century so I'm probably better off. |

FAL, I loved my SAR-48. Its out of your desired price range, but you can run across a deal or two for around 1K-1200 or so.

lol, just ignoring the whole 800 or below price thing huh?
And where are we finding 800 FALS? I'd love to have one. Michael |
I must be odd. I love my CETME. I actually like shooting it better than the FAL.
I would take either one if it was the right price. |

Can't believe they're selling it so cheaply. If I hadn't just bought a yugo and Polish UF I'd probably scoop it up. $695 FAL Linky....yup I'm a fucking hero :) |

I've had a H&K91, FAL and M1A.
Today I don't own the 91. To answer the OP's question, "FAL or CETME?" I say FAL. Bill |
I would go with a dsa FAL first. M1A second and a JDL prt91 third. The M1a has the best iron sight but the Fal is my favorite. I've check out the hk91/cetma.... and I didn't like the trigger. I don't like Century guns ..AR-10 ?

I voted Cetme because I own one. And I love it ! As for Ergo's. what's wrong with them ? Mine doesnt kick much more than my Yugo SKS, and yes you do have to learn how to bear down on the rifle to get decent grouping...but it's a freaking .308 ! I must have some sort of magic mags, because they all eject just fine...beit steel or aluminum. Oh yeah, I'd like to see an $800 FAL, or HK-91 for that matter. Guess where HK got the licence to COPY their precious 91, G3, Etc ETC ETC... ? I get folks at the range telling me that CAI copied HK's and they are gonna get sued for making HK clones. If they only knew...... ETA...only pic for now, digi cam went south... http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s12/K1200LTryder/HPIM0933.jpg Did you pick out that bed spread? |

9/10 Missing an Aussie example with Coachwood furniture. Nice Izzy and Rhodesian ETA: Bumped from 8.5 to 9/10 for the Trilux. |
What the crap kinda poll is this? A CETME can't hold a candle to the FAL.

FAL for the win! I like mine short.. http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc144/spankeyzgirl/osw_fal.jpg http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc144/spankeyzgirl/DSC00893.jpg Nice. The world needs more shorty FAL's |

I had one, paid $400. It was OK but the feed ramps on it are wrong, that makes it very picky about magazines. |

This is like an AR15 vs Mini-14.
I'll take a FAL over a CETME, ANY day of the week. |

If it's built on an Imbel which many of the early CAI FALs were you're GTG. At that point the receiver alone is worth $400.(I haven't check prices lately though). IIRC the R1A1s were built on Century receivers which suck. But it's worth checking out. Hell mines a early Century "built in Canada" on an Imbel and it runs like a champ and is every bit as good as a DSA. Actually, it's better I had Moses from Falfiles work some magic. |

A CETME is an ergonomic train wreck. yep I have a HK91 and a PTR. I like both very much and they are fairly accurate, but if I'm being honest, the ergonomics really suck. I wanted an HK since I saw one in my grandpas SOF mag back in the late 70's. Finally had the money a few years ago and bought it. The only reason I keep it is the childhood memory of how "cool" I thought it was back then and how I just had to have one someday. I voted FAL even though I don't currently own one, but it's on my very short list of "soon to aquire". |
Well, I was looking into a CETME and well aware that I may need to do things like replace the ground bolt, replace rollers, etc. I have twenty aluminum G3 mags that I got for $.99, what the hell do I do now? It's obvious that Arfcom has a hardon for the FAL. Can I get cheap mags for a FAL?
