I wouldn't have to think twice about picking them up, they are rather hard to find and as mentioned earlier, EXPEVSIVE

I thought those looked familiar.   There's a box labelled, "Misc Colt Handguards" on the junk parts shelf in the shop.  If they are going for that much, I better start putting some ads in the EE!

Oh yes, I remember that day!   Was about 11 years ago maybe.

I'm going to contact some of the other boards and see what the going rate is.  I can't believe they're that much.  Even S.A.W. probably is cheaper than that.

Thanks guys , the ones I'm looking at are brand new still in the Colt plastic bag with date 10/87 and original paperwork.

I have some detailed pictures of a new colt DOE upper if someone would like to post them for me.  ( I need to figure out how to do it someday).

Modfied DOE barrels are unimpressive.

I don't understand the mentality of modifiying a rare, collectable, and expensive Colt barrel when 635 barrels or after market barrels are plentiful.

That pic is of an aftermarket DOE style barrel with an HK style 3 lug adapter. Not a modified original.

I see, that isn't bad then.

However, we have all seen modfied originals.

Left link cold.

Very interesting varient. Stuff like this is why I love this site.

What is the reason for that flat plate?

And why the flip up front sight with a carry handle upper?

The front plate was to keep your fingers from getting blow off by the muzzle. With a barrel that short, it is very possible.

Not sure of colt's reason for the flip sight.  Maybe someone else knows.

On the front sight, my guess is that's all they had room for, with the normal FSB it would only take away from the handguards which are short enough

Is that the original configuration in the "only the best firearms" link

curious to know if they were made to be used with the DIAS or a full auto lower

Originals were full-auto 9mm from factory.  Rollmarked "SMG" on magwell.

Yeap.

And here is a pic of Denny's. RO635, which would share the same lower.
