I've had my sights set on a lightweight carbine build for some time and this pic fit the bill,

I started gathering parts and here is my end result, its light, accurate and will serve my intended purpose as a break down pack gun

ETA: the receiver.

As I said on the AKFORUM....damn sexy bro!

Is that a 16" you had shortened to 14.5"?  (I'm judging by the lack of a second "step down" at the muzzle)

I actually like that better than the IDF picture you have at the top.

I found the A1 upper here on the EE, the bbl is a DTI 14.5" Chrome Lined bbl from Del-Ton, the phantom FH brings it out to legal length. The buttstock is a 2 position Colt and I used a DMPS lower.

Its hard to see it in the first pics but the second step down is there.

i tossed my old colt buffer tube on a mill at work and popped 4 more stops in it. the 2-pos drove me nuts...

I'm comfortable with the old 2 position, back in the 80's and early 90's, I rarely put one down. This is a pic from my past with a Colt Commando.

Yea, but if it's really going to be an IDF clone, you've got to attack it with a belt sander, or drag it behind your truck. Too pretty, otherwise.

Nice setup. I want to do a really cheap one of the same type. Was it pretty inexpensive?

Good job! I think that the IDF clone is really starting to take off in popularity. I love mine:

I enjoy it's simplicity and that it is lightweight. It is by far the most favorite of my ARs.

Nothing's cheap anymore, I spent extra for the Colt buttstock and the chrome lined bbl, I could have easily saved 100.00 but I'm picky

Very Nice Isrforgery

Only thing I would have done different is to not use a castle nut on the receiver extension.

But you can use whatever you want, Im not going to tell you what you can and can not use on your mk18, Isrforgery

nice carbine, I may have to make my next one with this IDF clone setup.

All the IDF clones I have seen people building make me really want one.

I have a couple like the one in the first pic.  If that's what you need, let me know.  We could just swap as I prefer the one that fits the stock wrench I have.

Nice build!

I've been looking to get an IDF sling like that but I can't seem to find a reputable dealer in the states that sells them. Yeah, I've found a bunch of clones and knock offs, but not the vanilla IDF sling with steel parts. I'm not trying to build and IDF carbine or anything, I just think the sling is very practical for my situation. Where did you acquire yours?

I do like the look of an M4, without all the "goodies" hanging off of it.

I'll second that on the sling. Would like to have one of those myself.

The sling I'm using on mine is nothing more than a US utility strap, I think Cheaper Than Dirt sells them in 6 packs.

Why would you want an M4-type, when everyone knows they're unreliable?

What are the wraps or elastic type things on the handguard and stock?

I've had that setup with a slick side upper for a few years, but I didn't know I was doing something cool.  I don't like the M4 cut barrel, but it was a good deal at the time.

I guess I'm still an oddball with OD furniture.  Nice weapons BTW.

They are elastic bands. It's the real deal too. Straight from an IDF supplier.

When I look at these wraps I am reminded of wrapping our gear in 100mph tape before an ambush. Looks like its there to silence anything that may rattle.

It needs the elastic binkies to keep it warm...

I got my IDF slings here:

Is that flash hider permanently mounted [i.e. tac welded or pinned] due to the 14.5 barrel?

Great set up, now all I gots to do is find an A1 upper.

Any thoughts of swapping the lower for a NDS A1 type?  Then it would really look the part.

I was going to ask if it was permanently attached too... Good work on that - gotta stay legal!

I am just curious.  Why so many M16's in the IDF?  Seems like the 16's are primary weapons for them.  Never see any pics of IDF with the Galil (yes I know this is an AR website).  I am sure they will eventually be phased out by the Tavor....

I just might do my last lower as a IDF/ KISS clone....

Why, cuz they get them from us. The way the scam works is this: We give the Israelis credit to buy weapons. They can only spend it with US companies.

The Tavor may never see wide deployment because it will cost more than the free M16s that they get form us. BSW

When I was there last year, I didn't see one Galil as opposed to my previous trips. Everyone there was carrying some kind of M16/M4. I spoke to a few guys there and the impression I got was the Galil was not all it was cracked up to be and most folks preferred the M16/M4.

The Galil is a good weapon, but it gets heavy quick on patrol.
