Okay, so a while back I saw a picture of an ar or m16 with the upper and lower nickel plated instead of anodized.  I assume it was an anniversary edition from colt.  Does anyone know where to find pictures of this rifle?
also:
does anyone know what kind of aluminum is used to machine the upper and lower receivers?

the reason I'm asking:  I have a friend who has access to an anodizer that leaves a gold colored finish... and he has decided he wants to do an ar.

I'm trying to talk him out of it, but we will see.

If memory serves me correctly, President Kennedy was presented a gold plated M-16.

Kennedy definitely had an AR-15 but I'm not certain about the gold plating.

If your friend can get it done at a reasonable price, or can get a discount if theres more then one lower done at a time, I'm deffinatly in.  I'd LOVE a gold AR, it will go great with my new greellz and my twenty-fo inch spinnaz

Kennedy was presented an XM-16, this was after the Armalite select fire AR-15 but before Colt offered a semi auto AR-15.

If you get a Gold AR, throw a curb feeler on the stock and hang it from your neck. I guarantee we see it in a Rap video soon.

A gold AR would be Bling Bang.  I think the polished chrome, and gold weapons have their place.  A gold AR would be cool.  If I had the money I would get one -probably a chrome one though.

I think thats Anodized Flat Dark Earth?

It is....they still haven't got it right yet but they're getting better.  The pics always make the anodizing look goldish or bronzish.  In person it looks a little better but all the companies have different finishes for it and I've yet to see a perfect look that matches w/ other parts.

I don't think thats exactly the shade of gold he explained to me.  he works for Boeing and the parts he anodizes come out very bright and gold looking.

thanks for the pictures though, that will at least give him some idea of what it may look like.
I was explaining to him that it would be nearly impossible to find the other parts (buttstock, foregrip, barrel, etc...) that matched in color without making them ourselves.

That Troy rifle is a few years old. It is not the current FDE color.  Its probably one of the LMT rifles.
This is the newer FDE match. Its still type III hard anodized.
