Gonna build my father a nice AR for his birthday this year, and he's told me he's sick of all black guns. DSGArms Going Green Sale is going to be my friend. Can't pick between the two colors. Anybody want to show off their ARs and give me a comparison of the colors to help me pick? Thanks.

I think we have a thread...show off those greens?
That being said. I prefer OD green. Folliage is too light in color. |
|
Personally I prefer the contrast between black and OD green. Foliage and UDE is too ACUtastic.

It's not going to match unless you change the receiver colors as well (like the SCAR).

|
Another vote for OD, and recievers on real guns are not supposed to be colors!....<><....:)

Agreed. |

As a blend in camo color, OD is too dark for me. Foliage is much better at blending in. At least around here.

Hey Big Fat Dog.
I have the same rear sight as you and had been wondering about an optic. Care to elaborate on yours? |
|
|
The problem with OD is that it looks almost black at a distance and low light conditions. Foliage Green blends in much better at distance and at dawn/dusk.

I tend to find foliage too light to blend with much of anything here in the subtropics. OD all the way for me.

Hey Big Fat Dog. I have the same rear sight as you and had been wondering about an optic. Care to elaborate on yours? I have 2 rifles set up like that, one OD and one Black. It's a Trijicon Reflex II using the Trijicon flat-top mount (I bought them as the RX01NSN package). It sets up a nice Lower 1/3 co-witness. When shooting from a dark area to a brighter area the dot can wash out (due to it being illuminated by ambient light or the internal tritium)... with a fixed BUIS this potential problem becomes a minor annoyance. I keep thinking about replacing the Trijicon mount with a GG&G Accucam mount. I have them on the rest of my optics, but I can't bring myself to spend the money. My Recommendation: Buy one used (the washout problem makes them cheap on the secondary market), but without the mount and buy the GG&G mount. Which is exactly what I wish I had done. |

Here's mine done in duracoat magpul od green. Not a perfect match but definately better than their magpul FDE. Sorry, picture isn't that great either. |

Those new rails from Spike's look nice. How's it working out for you so far? |

Sorry, picture isn't that great either. I like spooky. Also like OD as a option to all black. If you want camo it will be a wide variety of colors and changed as needed. Fashion statement only, some like CAT yellow, some like pink, who cares. I do find it funny when I see images of weapons all painted up, less the scope or hunter. Or everything less hands, face or a combination of all these. It's even better when hunting from a truck 458 |

I went with Foliage Green and after seeing all these pics of Olive Drag, I'm very comfortable with my choice. OD is too dark ... may as well stay black.

OD is too dark ... may as well stay black. Yeah, I was just about to mention this. If you want looks, do whichever. If you want function, go foliage, or a mix. The functional purpose of the colored stocks, etc. is to break up the outline of the rifle. The foliage, being of a lighter color, helps break up the outline more so than OD. -Ed |

I had a mix of both with this build.. http://i735.photobucket.com/albums/ww359/jboy723/IMG_3487.jpg Hoochie MOMA.....i am beginning to notice that if its HOT and its SHORT, its yours |

That looks foliage on my monitor. Unless that is foliage and you're trying to say it's too light by putting it on the darker grass? But OD (or which there are a dozen shades) will stand out just as much (well, at least all the shades I've seen used on AR parts anyway) on that grass. Foliage is almost as dark as a lot of sage brush, it's a little darker than the underside of many leaves, It doesn't match anything perfectly. It still does a better job than most OD. I can't think of anything I've seen OD actually match up with. WA, TX, VA, MD, FL, Germany, England, NM, CA, AL... maybe in someplace like FL under heavy tree cover where you're in shadows the darkness of the color would help blend more. For anything but a rain forest or true jungle, FG is probably a better match. And even in those locales it would do a decent job. Or hell, get another rifle and do both! I have a Bushmaster with an OD grip, stock, and forearm. My 6920 has the grip, stock, and rail covers in FG. I might do my 6.8 in FDE when I get a lower for it, or I might get a brown lower receiver once we get those in and do a FDE and brown mix. |

Most of the foliage green plastic that I have seen is a bit minty to my eye. |

Foliage Greem is much better IMO and an urban feel to it, for me anyway.
|
|
While I'm going the FDE route on mine, OD is the only green I'd allow.

Foliage. We have 4 seasons in NH. I think foliage will work best most of the time.

I like Foilage better, i looked at both before i went this route: http://i633.photobucket.com/albums/uu58/NIHILator/SmithandWessonMAGPUL1.jpg I'm happy with the result. I may do my second AR with an ACS rear stock and MOE front also in Foilage. That looks great and all, but the last thing on earth it looks like in the pic is foliage....to me it looks like FDE mixed w. OD or something. Prob. just the lighting or something |

Took it last night inside with a flourescent shop light and the flash on my camera. Looking at the other pics, i see what you mean. But its foilage for sure. |

Its all pure personal preference, but that being said, I have 2 AR's and 1 Ak wearing OD. 0 in Foliage Green.

I prefer foliage out here in West Texas. Most of the year Foliage Green is the right choice where I spend most of the time with my guns.
