How do I err know that its a 6920?

What should be stamped on the side?

Sporter or 6920LE

it will have a serial number that starts with an SP or LE I think. Oh yeah, there should be a horse!

Lots of things could be stamped on the side. The easiest way to tell is by looking at the box, which should say LE6920 (or SP6920, which was around for about a year).

The receiver could say COLT'S LAW ENFORCEMENT CARBINE

or SPORTER M4 CARBINE

M4 CARBINE

M4A1 CARBINE

I think some of the MT6400's also had the sporter M4 roll mark.

If it has an M4 barrel and says one of these things, it's probably a 6920 variant.

I don't think any of them actually say 6920 anywhere on them...

Well, the sticker does say LE6920 and the serial number on the sticker matches the one on the gun.

The serial number on the gun itself begins with a "LE" but then it says "M4 CARBINE"...

Why the face? That's an LE6920. Nice rifle

ETA Like I said, they don't actually say 6920 anywhere on the gun, just the box it came in.

I'd rather have a gun that says M4 CARBINE than 6920

Really?  Oh cool.  It also says "Colt Defense" and "Hartford Conn".

I think I read something about a law enforcement stamp?  Is that the "LE" part of the serial number?

But like theres a scratch on it (two actually) and the pistol grip looks all used and funky and like theres "marks" on the cylindrical part of the stock where the collapsible part slides and and

Those are all to be expected.  Colt doesn't make an exquisite AR; get a Noveske if you want exquisite.  Mine all have tool marks and forge flashes still glaringly present and they all kick ass and go boom every time.

The stamp you speak of is this one:

IMG_1763 by Will816, on Flickr

These are no longer stamped on the receivers, they were just a byproduct of the AWB that Colt kept doing until about two years ago.

ETA You can see some of the machine marks right above the trigger and hammer pins, and also some nicks down by the trigger guard pin.  It is to be expected.

If you shoot it it won't stay pretty long.

Take a carbine class and see how it looks when you are done. It will look even better

Nope.  Cheap airsoft copy and sounds like you got robbed.  I'll give ya $20 for it just so you can get something back out of what you paid for it.

You mean like this, it's my LE6920 that I bought almost a year ago with the "M4 CARBINE" markings and serial number prefix LE, they're the most common.

As another member said some 6920 could have these other markings:

"COLT'S LAW ENFORCEMENT CARBINE" (these are older than the M4 Carbine marked models)

"M4A1 CARBINE" (these are the SOCOM series either with the Knight's Armament M4 RAS or Daniel Defense M4A1 RIS II FSP rails)

You better get it right away they usually go fast!

What do ya'll do to yall's guns during these 'classes'?

I've been through a bunch of (good) classes and never saw anything particularly hard on the equipment.

My scratches usually come from transitioning to pistol and the rifle gets banged up on things like the cobra buckle on my warbelt or when going into some type of prone position behind cover..

I've got a 6940 marked like that. But the 6920 is usually marked M4 Carbine, with the prefex LE, then the rest of the serial #. The ones that are marked Restricted are worth more money. They aren't restricted. But some people just like that it says that. Maybe it makes them feel like a real operator.
It has no difference on how any of them function.

Nope, I guess not. I looked at mine last night, it definitely doesn't have 6920 on any of the roll marks, which I didn't think it did. I've never owned one of the LE versions though, just going by my selective memory from looking at others, which makes shit up sometimes

Sorry dude. Wrong info.

I would much rather have the one that these guys are referring to than the one with the Restricted marking. I don't like those markings, I know that they're not applicable, but I don't like the ambiguity. It says right on it that it's "Law Enforcement Only" - for some reason I could imagine that explaining the timeline of the AWB wouldn't convince an ignorant peace officer that the gun was indeed legal for civilians. Most police would know better, but you see cops  doing stupider things on the Internet everyday.

FIFY.

I wouldn't pay a penny more for the markings, and I know at least a few others who wouldn't either.

With a thick Ebonics accent.. "It says right here it's restricted for LEO/.MIL only. Don't tell me how to do my job, you take that up with the Judge.."

Hell, I may be willing to trade my restricted 6920 lower for a M4 or M4A1 marked lower.  Just sayin!
