A search should turn up quite a bit.  Lots of us have built using wood and have posted pictures many times.  TheTurnbull has a special steel upper and lower that is case colored hardened.  You cannot do that with aluminum.

Check this out...

There are a couple of examples but not much.  Google is your best bet.  Search "wood ar15".

If that were rifle length, it would be a much prettier rifle.

If it weren't so damn ugly it'd be a prettier rifle

Yeah, that's pretty, all right - pretty gross. I don't think it would be so bad if it were nicely blued, but that color-case looks like leprosy on an AR. The hand guard looks crappy too.
I like the very early AR with Bakelite furniture.

One of the 80% makers offered bronze lowers for a while.

Here's one I built for hunting whitetails.  I liked the wood stock, but found I prefer the shorter A1 length for my hunting rig and took the wood stock off and put a old fixed butt pre-A1 butt stock on it now.  I haven't seen any A1 length wood stocks....but then again I haven't looked for awhile.  I got this one from DSArms in 2005.

Really want to put together an AR with wooden furniture on it in .450 Bushy or .50 Beo for a whitetail rig.

Here is my version of a Non-Black AR Rifle....

I am very happy and pleased how it came out, and it shoots as well as it looks.

I ordered it off Rock River Arms website about three years ago. I looked for it a few times since and it looks to be discontinued.
I found this website and they seem to have a limited selection. http://www.precisionfirearms.com/19.html

Recently sold the Black Walnut set. Keeping the Laminate. That is being used on a 22lr Build with the NP3 upper and lower set. Both Sets can from AR15wood.com is there website, I bought my sets from them in person several years back at the NRA show in Arizona. He said he was the brother of "Boyds Stocks", I don't know. At the time, Iron wood designs was not doing them. One downfall on the ar15wood ones is that there are no vent holes in the hand guards. That is why I am using the laminate on a 22lr setup. If I buy anymore, I'll go with Ironwood designs. I have some of there AK stocks and love there work/quality.

Thx.  Shoots nicely too.  A good KISS rifle with zero frills, even a slick-sided upper with no FA or deflector.

I'd sooner try that than put a plastic frame on a 1911.
