I love everything about my Block II SOPMOD rifle, except the weight. Ive been contemplating swapping to the shorter rail myself. Just waiting for one to pop up in the EE.

DD RIS II Mk18 rail, Vltor IMod stock, Tango Down pistol grip, Surefire 952V light, Aimpoint CompM3 red dot, Troy folding sights. Looks better than I thought it would with the shorter rail. I had a 13" Troy rail system on a previous AR that I built that was nice, but I honestly never found a use for that extra real estate near the end of the rail. A 10" rail is prob adequate for my uses, plus its inherently lighter and less bulky. For me, 5.56mm AR's are 300m and under guns - if I want to shoot farther, I'd rather use a .308 or larger caliber rifle with a 2.5-10, 3-9 or 4-10 power optic. So I prefer to have AR's setup lightweight and simple - which is how I setup the AR pictured below:        EDIT: I forgot to save this file before exiting the program, so these are the only pics I have. Also, I couldn't find a remote switch for the Surefire in the program - this would be mounted on the left (from users perspective) side of the rail system, at the rear of the rail. |
