I've seen the keyhole marking, but who's forge marking is this?

Isn't there a link somewhere here that explains all the forge markings?

We call that a square

I clarified the question:  What manufacturer's forge marking is this?

I have the same marking on a couple of my carry handles. Not sure you the manufacturer is.

A forge mark has nothing to do with the manufacturer, it simply tells you who made the forging.  The final machining is done by the manufacturer.  The same forge that sells forgings to LMT can also supply Olympic, it can't be used as some sort of benchmark for quality.  Some manufacturers have their mark included with the forge mark, Colt, Diemaco, and Armalite for example.

Couldn't tell you which forge uses the square symbol...

Okay, thanks for the clarification.

That mark signifies an Olympic forging.

Based on what others have said the mark would not indicat that OLYMPIC actually made the upper.  There are only so many forges and they sometimes put a marking to denote a brand name.  Kinda like receivers, there are only so many actual receiver makers who then put a brand name/logo on the receiver.

I can't verify if it's true but some dealers stated that the square forging marks are from Matech.

I've seen the square forging markings on Colt detachable carry handles, Bushmaster and DPMS uppers.

Hmm, who's Matech?  They don't really ring a bell with me.  Are they a large forger?

ETA:  Is this them?  MATECH

This same question's been posed at m4carbine.net where someone has turned up Brass Aluminum Forging Enterprises as the possible originator of the square forge mark.

Yes.  Matech is a very large DOD supplier of many parts.

Most people here will recognize the Matech BUIS.

+1 The same Matech that makes the Matech BUIS used on most military M4 carbines.

Like I said in my post, I'm not really absolutely sure and I could be wrong but I just figure that if Colt uses their forgings on their detachable carry handle they are related components.

Here's a Colt detachable carry handle at the EE with the square forge marking.

I'd hope not, otherwise it wouldn't really be a forge mark, would it?
