I've used JP enterprise handguards in the past, I like 'em.

Not perfectly smooth, but in my personal experience with both VTAC rails, they are my favorite. Troy being chosen because it is thinner and as such what I run on my personal gun.

I like the PRI, but not their pricetag.
I also like the JP/VTAC.

I have APEX Gator Grip handguards on my LR 308 and love them. They are not perfectly smooth. The fit and finish are great and they are tight with no movement. The Gator Grip gives you a positive grip but will not scratch your bare hands.  They also make them for AR 15s.

I have a couple of guns with the hogue you pictured and I am very happy with it. The only downside to the hogue is that if you decide you want to add a railed device later the collar to add the rails to the end is $100. I saw another one the other day where the first half was smooth and the second half was railed. It may have been RRA.

I've got the Apex, which I like a lot.  As someone else stated, it gives a good, solid grip without being sharp, scratchy, or otherwise irritating:

I'm about to go smooth as well, torn between troy alpha and Noveske.

the noveske comes SO high on bottom, it has to be felt to believed.

how does it compare weight wise to others?

also do the screws have backers?  how annoying are they to install?

To be honest I didn't install it myself as I had the upper painted. Based on the videos I have seen and the instructions, it doesn't appear to be any more difficult than the comparable rails out there.

I really like the small OD and shape of the rail. It fits my hands nicely. I used to have a DD M4 RIS II and I believe this rail is a bit lighter. I don't think I'll ever own a quad rail again.

Second vote for Noveske NSR (13.5" rail weighs like 11 ounces, 11" is like 9.8 ounces), but if you have to have smooth and cylindrical, the MI SS gen2 seems to be a great value.

It's my first experience with any aluminum ff hanguard but i love my Troy delta rail with the "squid grip" rubber inserts.

I know it's not cylindrical, but the Lancer LCH is an awesome handguard, as well.

I have several Hogue installations as well as a Hyperform Carbon fiber and the JP VTAC.  Like them all.

I use the YHM ones as well.   Like them a lot.  Nice to be able to add and remove the rails as needed.

Armalite makes (or used to make) smooth, fiberglass composite handguards. I have one on my AR-10T and love it.

Not smooth without inserts, but the best that I have found.  VIS3-VLTOR one piece upper.

Sorry no pic but it is a 3 VIS VLTOR one piece upper.  Not smooth without inserts, but wow it is nice.
