Now I've read a bit about how the FDE one for the mk18 has a very limited public offering due to the gov contract, but what about the m4 12.5" length? DD does not have a gov contract to my knowledge for an m4 length, why are they no longer being made available to the public? I want one :| Bad.

DD does have a gov't contract for the M4A1 RIS II, and that is why they stated they aren't selling them individually to the public anymore. Now there are only sold in complete upper or rifles.

Place a WTB ad in the EE, you should get a reply pretty quickly.

I got one from the EE about 3-4 months ago.

Now I havnt followed this stuff in awhile, I know there was a design contest for a free float barrel for the new infantry m4 with the heavy barrel/full auto. Did DD win? Or who/what is the contract for?

The RIS II is the standard rail for the SOCOM M4A1 block II if that's what you mean.

There are a bunch of FSP rails on the EE but no standard ones.

You are looking for black?

That was the FRAK (Forward Rail Adapter Kit) that was apart of the PIP program for the M4.  It went through the it's process and the two companies that IIRC were down selected to was KAC and another company.  Didn't go any farther than that and most of the programs for the PIP were cut.

Now we're just waiting to see if the M4A1+ program gets off the ground, though I'm not holding my breath.  If they really wanted to keep things simple and implement quickly they would just do a Block II M4A1 and call it a day.

Black should be easier as it is not the MIL color.

Seems damn difficult. Do you know know of any other sites for "used" AR parts? I found one today on armslist but it was posted almost 3 months ago and states that it wont ship (12 hoursish round trip) I am almost willing to do it. Going to try to exhaust all my options first.

Also, love your pics. You take good shots. Do you have any pics with a 14.5 with a lite 3 12" or m4 ris ii?

Just was reading about the M4A1+ program. Went to one of the 1st links on google. Wanted to point out this excellent journalism.

"6. Flash suppressor. The specs request an improved flash suppressor to reduce both day and night firing signatures. That new muzzle brake, Russell said, should make a fired M4A1+ a little more difficult to see and hear.

The suppressor should, according to specs, include a blank firing adapter compatible with M200 ammunition. (The adapter is the muzzle-blocker used in blanks-based training to minimize injury should the gun accidentally fire a live round)."
