Have done a few searches on the board and read a good bit of information but wanted others' opinion on what AR to buy in .308.  I have looked at the Larue OSR, LWRC SABR, DPMS (2 year wait ouch), POE, etc...

To spend under $3k, what is the best weapon?  Thanks!

I like DPMS, have always been good to me.

Which DPMS?  What is best barrel lenght, worth getting a fluted barrel, etc..

Thanks!

DPMS versions from a handy carbine and a ponderously-heavy target rifle.

Your need should drive your choice.

If I had $3k to drop it'd be the POF, no question.

Would you pick the POF over the LWRC SABR?

3K$$??   Get a GA Precision.  either DPMS or Armalite, doesnt matter, each will have its proponents (I have 3 DPMS, one built by GAP) and either will be a tack driver.

LOL, I would rather spend less but after looking around was thinking it would take $3k to get a AR in .308.

Have been looking at DPMS but don't want to wait 2 years to order one and (this will sound stupid but...) don't really want to spend 150% what a DPMS sells for to get it on Gunbroker.  Then started looking around at others and heard that LWRC SABR with it's gas piston system is one of the best shooting AR's around.  Seeing that the SABR keeps getting pushed back for delivery just a bit hesitant to pony up $3k now and then wait 3+ month for the thing to ship, if it does.

Yes, since the POF is actually available. Also I have personal issues with LWRC.

My DPMS LR-308 lower shipped in about one week from the day I placed the order from RGUNS - I picked it up from my FFL last Friday.  I ordered the upper on Monday.  It said 2-4 weeks delivery then.  Now it says 3-8 weeks for rifles, 6-12 weeks for uppers.  Better get on it if you're going to order one.

I have not checked Rguns because of all the negative things said about them on this board.  I will take a look.  Any reason you just got a lower from them and not the whole rifle?

I bought my LR308 from them and a bunch of ammo, never had any issues. What negative things?

Just remember reading some stuff about rgun's, the 2008 shot show and issues with customer service.  Might be 100% mistaking this company for another because I saw another post recently about someone buying an AR from them and getting it pretty fast.  Thanks!

I bought a DPMS stripped LR-308 lower and two of my friends bought DPMS LR-308 rifles from rguns with no problems.

I have LWRCs in 6.8 and 5.56.  I wouldn't hesitate to buy their 308.  In fact, had it been available last August...I'd have likely bought one instead of my POF P-308.  But, the POF has been flawless and accurate (for me....I'm no sniper).   I don't think you can go wrong with either one personally.

In a 308 AR you could come close to spending 3K on the rifle alone like the POF or you can get a complete package for about 3K.  I have a RR LAR-8 that shoots 1 1/2 groups at 100 and about 2~3 at 200 with aussie milsurp.  With better ammo I know that it will do better.

My setup RRA rifle $1150, Night force 1-4 CQB 1K with larue mount off of EE, Troy rear and front sight $225,  DD freefloat 9.0 $365,  Magpul CTR stock $90, magazines $15 a piece uses FAL Mags.  It's not just the cost of the rifle it's all the other things that you want to get with it.  Lifetime guarantee of the rifle.  Some of these companies like POF and Noveski are great with advertising that does not translate into a great rifle this just increases the price.  The only problem with the DPMS LR-308 and even the Armalite is the cost of magazines.  They can run about $30 per mag and some many hold 19 rounds.  I know that is going to upset some DPMS owners.

In the end you really have to factor in the cost of the entire rifle.

I wanted the PRS stock, and $580 for the lower with the PRS seemed like a helluva deal.  They weren't offering the rifle with the stock on their website - guess I could have called and asked though...

Rguns is OK, you get the product, cheap, you don't any communication or customer service.  The wait times posted are not real.  I have had a 308 on order since Dec, and another Jan.  Expecting them in 2010.  I bought into that too... until I called and actually found a person.  SGC had them for $1249 online and they stood in stock for over a week, could kick myself for not paying more then.

Gee, is that the same Rguns that has this posted on their website?

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT ORDERING DPMS RIFLES AND UPPERS

Due to extraordinary demand, DPMS complete rifles and uppers that are listed as "in stock," may be sold out at actual time of order.  We are taking back orders for these items, with an ESTIMATED wait of three to eight (3 - 8) weeks for rifles and six to twelve (6 - 12) weeks on uppers.  Thanks continued support and patience.
