i just got my package from J & T today. i finally got my 7.62x39 barrel and bolt. so my new rifle is put together but i'm uncertain on the distance to sight it in. i will be using it for deer hunting mainly from 100-200 yards. does anyone have a ballistics chart that shows the drop of the 7.62x39 round if sighted in for 100 yds?  i plan on using a 3-9x40 or a good 4-12x50 scope.

top- 7.62x39, dpms lower, dpms lpk, bravo company upper, j&t bolt and barrel, hogue ff rifle length handguard and grip, dpms 6pos stock, j&t 9mm flash hider, m16 chrome bcg

middle- .22 squirrel buster, dpms lower, dpms lpk, bravo company upper, cmmg .22lr kit, dpms 6 pos stock, nc star laser red dot scope

bottom- 5.56 , dpms m4 clone

What kind of ammo are you using?  Best way I know how to do it is to find out the velocity of the load you're using...if you don't know for certain, you can use an estimate for a generic 7.62x39 load.  You'll also need the BC of the bullet.  Again, if it's a factory load, that may be hard to find, but you can get an estimate by looking at MIdwayusa.com at some bullets of similar diameter, shape, and weight. Their website usually lists the BC for the bullets (in the reloading components section of their site).  Then go to this site: http://www.hornady.com/ballistics/ballistics_calculator.php
and enter in the data.  You'll also need the distance from your bore axis to the axis of your optic in inches.  This site lets you enter in the range you have your rifle zeroed to, and then tells you where it will hit from 50 out to 500yds.  Hope this helps.  I like to take the data (two columns: range vs drop) and print a very small table which I then tape to the inside of my scope's flip up rear cover.  Keeps me from forgetting when I switch between rifles/loads.  Thus far this method has been very accurate for me.  I did it with my 300WM, and the point of impact was within 0.5" of the estimate when I shot it at 300 yds for the 1st time.

Check the AR variants caliber specific FAQ's.

If that doesn't help try Ammoguide.com , they have a nice ballistics calculator.

If you are looking for a good zero for your 7.62x39 in order to reliably hit game at 200 yds, a 100yd zero is only so-so because you will be over 6" low at 200 yds.

Zero your 7.62x39 carbine so it is about 2" high at 100 yds and you will be under 2.5" low at 200 yds.

I agree.  You need to figure out what your "point blank" zero is...and RedFalconBill here pretty much hit the nail on the head with his numbers...

I think a kick as hunting load would be the new barnes 108 gr RRLP in a hot hand load.

That bullet was not around when I had my 7.62x39 upper, but if it would have I would
definately loaded it. Probably a good bullet for small white tails.

Not sure on performance on game since it is frangable, but my guess is it woud work well.

I zeroed my rifle at 150 yards. With the above bullet zeroed at 175 yards, max ht would be 1.7" at 100yds, 1.5" low at 200, 6" low at 250 yds.

With a normal TSX 275 yards is about at the limit of FPS where it will open and the FPE is around 800.
