Does anyone make a Ar15 upper in 44 mag?

Some states only allow rifles that use a straight wall pistol cartridge for deer hunting............. and the Rugers and Marlins in 44 mag have become very popular.

Just wondered if an AR in 44 mag would work.

Pretty hard to get the rimmed case to feed and work in a AR. Tromix built one or two.

For the most part the answer is no it is not worth the trouble.

Ron Williams will build you a 45 Win Mag upper.  Find him in the pistol  caliber forums under 45 ACP conversions.

Your best bet would likely be a .450 Bushmaster Complete Upper/Carbine/Rifle, even though they are a off the shelf Item.

It's obviously a .45 Caliber, and not a .44 Caliber round through the tube...I don't know at that point if it makes a big difference
to you...

Many places run sales on the .450 Bushmaster every so often, brass and factory ammo can normally be had without much
trouble...esspecially online.

Hope this helps...JMHO.

450 Bushmaster is not a straight wall pistol case to qualify for his deer hunting.

Sorry I missed the part were it said pistol cartridge ...Well like the previous member
said, something like a 45ACP Carbine or a custom made 45 Win Mag, if you have a 1911
or Glock you can also try a MecTech  carbine conversion unit in something like .460 Rowland
which surpasses .44 Mag. power levels.

Good Luck.

Does someone make a 460 Roland upper?

If not, would a  45acp upper reamed to take the 460 Roland cartridge work okay?

I don't see why it can't be done...the only concern whould be the additional chamber pressures produced by the .460 Rowland... a heavy
buffer, spring would also be needed to counter PM bolt onpening etc.

We built three 44 magnum uppers, one 44 magnum complete rifle, and two sets of bolts/barrel for another smith to assemble.  So, there are 6 of them out there somewhere.  My dad owns #1 which was featured in an article by David Fortier in the April 2001 issue of Gun World magazine.  The magazine article generated sales for only two uppers, so we dropped it.  I think the main reason sales were so slow, was the limited 8 round magazine capacity of the Desert Eagle mag.  At the same time, we were offering 440 CorBon and 50AE uppers with a 15 round capacity.
I don't believe Kurt ever did a 44 Rem Mag, but he did do 45 Win Mag.

Here is a pic of the one complete Tromix 44 magnum rifle....built during the AW ban.

I have built quite a few 460Rs. With that said I also have built plenty of 45WMs. The 45WM definetly trumps the 460R if you reload.
