Gentlemen,

I am not conversant in all things AR.  I shoot mainly bolt guns.  But, I want to buy the most accurate .308 in an AR platform that I can buy.  Money is not an issue.  If I need to buy components and have someone assemble the rifle that's what I'll do.  If there is already a an AR-10 type rifle out there that meets my needs then that's what I'll get.  I want the heaviest barrel I can get and I want it at least 26" long.  Weight doesn't concern me.  Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.  People are already starting to buy up ammunition and reloading components.  I don't want to pay double for this rifle because of the upcoming Obama-scare.  I hope I didn't wait too long to react.

Thank you!

I think out of the major manufacturers only DPMS offers something close to that long and that would be their AR-10 w/ a 24" barrel.

Accuracy Systems Inc offers a ton of AR-10 configurations and a few with 26" barrels and their rifles generally come with a sub-MOA guarantee.

If you're open to anything shorter I'd look at Larue.

If I won the lottery tomorrow I'd be building a .308 with a Krieger barrel and Mega Arms MATEN receivers.  I don't know that there would be very many rifles, short of a bolt gun, that would be able to hang with it.  If you want something stupid accurate you could always build a .260 Remington or 6.5 Creedmoor on the AR10 platform.

The answer to your question is to ask real Highpower match shooters.
IMHOFind which platform you want to have? Armalite or DPMS.

I for the life of me hate when I hear someone endorses so n so's rifle.
If anyone can prove to me that so n so's commercial mil spec rifle is inherently out of the box ? More accurate out of the box than the next guy? Im talking about anyones commercial builds. La Rue? Les or anybody ?   I'll eat my hat.

Now that being said If you want to pick your componants ? Thats a different story.

My advise to you is just what I said. Find whos platform what want to spend your money on and buy the best barrel and trigger setup you can? I love JP triggers..only surpassed by my Sako bolt gun ? to which? there is no equal.:)
Armalite mags are spendy
DPMS are based on the SR25 and are cheaper.

DPMS is the best buy

Pick whichever make and model suits your needs the best. Shoot it and see if the accuracy meets your specs. If not replace the barrel. It really doesn't have to be any more difficult than that.

FWIW- I would start with an Armalite with the stainless target/NM barrel.

I've found DPMS to be surprisingly accurate for their price.  Most seem to be 1 MOA or less with match ammo when shooting 3-5 shot groups

With 4-12x40 Nikon I managed to get groups of 10 shots under 2 1/2" at 200 yards off a bag front rest..

DPMS LR308 with 16" heavy barrel and Miculek Comp..

This is after 600+ rounds with it.. Hornady SST 150 and 110 TAP were the ammo of the year..

Since sold   due to ammo pricing..

Thank you for all the replies Gentlemen.  It seems DPMS may be my best option for the moment.  I do need to buy optics as well.

He said money is no issue.   So don't cut corners and get yourself a JP PSC-12 or a JP LRP-07

GA Precision will send you a 3/4 MOA gauranteed accurate rifle.  I have had them build me 2 AR10's so far, and both have been 1/2 MOA guns consistently.  I don't think you need a 26" barrel, but if you do get one, make sure you get an adjustable gas block to mitigate your dwell time.

Start with a Krieger or Bartlein pipe, and you'll have a tac-driver, especially if built by GAP.  There are other great rifle builders who do AR10 work as well, but this is my experience with GA Precision.

My .260 Rem AR10 built by them shoots .4" to .6" 5-round groups all day long at 100yds, and I recently shot a 9.25" group at 1000yds off my truck bed, off the bipod, in the wind, on 10x with my optic, with lots of mirage here in the high desert.

Les Baer guarantees 1/2 moa with their 308 rifles, Larue OBR rifles are also known for their incredible accuracy.  If you want a 308 ar with a barrel longer then 26" then you have to go custom, either have a custom barrel put on one or assemble one yourself or have someone assemble one for you. If I was you I would go with Les Baer or Larue if money was not an issue.

Almost anything in 6mm Creedmoor.

GAP knows how to do this in any platform of choice.

I'm an ARMALITE Dapper Dan man, don't want no FOP.  BUT, in this case...
I'ld probably go MEGA MA-TEN with ARMALITE flavor.

Only Les Baer quotes/states/stands behind a 0.5 MOA statement of accuracy with included targets... two (2) of them.

^^This, the Noveske N6 will out shoot any of the above mentioned rifles.
Want accuracy?  Get the best barrel on the market.  Your problem may be finding one in stock though.

Noveske N6, mine is a tack driver.  All the .308 AR's I have handled shoot well, and most shoot better than the owners.

that would be one you build yourself or get the parts and have someone build for you.
Kreiger 26" sst bull barrel (would also recommend the .260rem cambering)
whichever platform you like (the SR25/DPMS platform is quick becoming the standard)
and go from there.

for an off the shelf rifle? I have always had good luck with DPMS rifles even tho they have no accuracy guaranty.
otherwise whoever has the best guaranty, i think JP goes to 1/2moa?
