Does anyone know if with the properly chambered barrel, if .17 Remington would feed and fire in an AR? Just and idea that's been floating around in my head for some time.

Yes it will.  Middle gun in back row is a .17 Remington.

Even the 17 Mach IV will feed fine from a standard magazine, and it is quite a bit shorter.

Didn't a member here make a .17 Rem AR rifle that was about 75% the size of a regular AR? IIRC he was building it for his son.

I think that was one of the .17 rimfire cartridges, since the .17 Remington is pretty much the same size as a .223...
