I converted the DPMS lower. Barrel is Colt 1/12 C MP B marked. LRPK is DPMS, selector is modified M16A1.

When I clicked on this thread and saw the missing photos, I almost flipped a s@#t! Then I scrolled down, saw the photos, and everything was fine again.

It's actually pretty easy once I figured out how to clamp it in the mill.

Milling machine, Dremel, files, sandpaper, etc.

Both receivers are DuraCoat. It's a custom mix I put together.

I had to do a doubletake when I saw the DPMS lower. Nice reprofile! Are we going to see it in the Girls with Retro Guns thread?

nice. you're doing it old school. before nodak offered a1 lowers guys had to do what you did by hand. that was dedication.

now all it takes is a phone call. and they even take backorders nowadays

I've stopped posting in that thread - I only beat my head against the wall so much before I stop...wish I'd never gotten involved. If I wanted to get involved in crap like that I'd go straight to GD.

I posted in that thread once and decided that was one too many. But I have since learned from that thread that I, too, am obsolete. Along with most of my weapons....

ETA: I still think that reprofile of a DPMS lower is really cool! I'm new to Retro so I'm not familiar with having to do that to a lower. I got into Retro after Nodak came along and made life easier.

Same DPMS lower, pre-conversion. It's a 1968 603 upper with a C MP C marked barrel, which I later traded to my boss for a CK 603 upper and C MP CHROME BORE barreled upper. Because he's a collector, and I'm a shooter. DPMS A2 lower, squared the front lugs, DuraCoated to try to match colors.

1968 603 upper on Colt SMG lower.

1968 603 upper on DPMS A1 lower. At this point I'd reprofiled the front lug support and tried to match the finish.

It's from the "Empty your pockets! What do you carry?" thread. It's a picture of my waist. I have a pistol and two mags under the shirt.
