I have a not so authentic XM177-type AR and I want to add a carry sling. I don't want a modern looking tacticool type, bit more of a retro style.
What sling do you guys recommend, and where do you get them? I've searched build links provided in this forum, but I don't see any info on slings.

Also, I've seen pics of XM177s with a type of twisted cord sling, that is tied to the rifle. What are these?

Thanks in advance.

A good, retro appropriate carry sling for the XM177E2 is a cargo strap.  Here's my California legal Colt 654.

We used to have tons of those straps in the Commo shop back in the day...they are the same as used with TA-312 Field Telephone. If I knew what I know now I would have kept some when we turned in all those old phones! Kalifornia makes you put those stupid grips on your ARs..gotta love Socialism at its finest! Im sure Stalin would have done the same!

Where do you get these? And what did you use to tie the strap to your AR?

I got it from another member of the retro forum.  There are several threads in archive how to attach.  I used green paracord on both ends.  I cut the metal clips of of mine.

Check DocMike thread for GP strap tutorial.  Shouldn't be too far back.  It's a GI cargo strap with metal clips remomved (dremel) and 550 paracord with ends sewed together.

Well there are these. I have one on my M16A2 clone that was in a 71 dated package. Used in conjunction with a nylon M14 sling.

Arfcom member Booze found an old sling and has generously given it to me - for free!

Thanks to all of you for supplying me with information, and especially to Booze for his incredible generosity.
