Hi everybody,

I bought today a Colt M16A1 in excellent conditions.
Here are some pictures including details of the job needed to turn it from full auto into semi auto in compliance with Italian guns  laws.

Very nice Bizio.  Looks a lot like my M16A1 clone, except that I did not have to cut the bolt carrier.  Is the larger auto sear pin part of the conversion?  Are you required to alter the disconnector and trigger also?  All in all very nice.  i wish we here in the US could just convert our full autos!

Thank you, F14ADC.

Correct, the sear pin has been milled and enlaged and a larger pin with a welded bush has been fit so to prevent to install again original pin with removed full auto parts.
Disconnector and trigger remain original. Hammer has been milled with lower part of bolt carrier.

Looks very nice. Also doesn't look like it would be hard to convert back to full auto if it was ever made legal to do so.

That's true.
It would not be difficult to buy a spare hammer and bolt carrier.

And that sear pin could be removed and the hole bushed down to spec. But I doubt Italy will ever allow that. Probably as much chance as our government allowing it.

Should in Italy a civilian, without having a collection license for War Guns, be caught with a full auto gun, he would immediatly arrested and prisoned for at least 8 years.

Ciao Bizio,

Ciao SoloDallas,
I didn't shoot it yet.
I guess your Colt is coming from Nuova Jager while mine is coming from Trimex, but rifles are exactly the same belonging to same lot from Malaysia.

Hello Bizio,

I also bought two M16A1

however these guns do not come from Malaysia, certainly coming from a military depot in UK , Are new and unused, is said to belong to the Royal Marines.
The M16A1 from Malaysia (sold in Italy) are the model 613 and the very rare model 01 that you can see in my old post

Yeah, me too...

My safe and gun range would be a great place for an M16 to spend it's retirement years...

Ciao Oplita,

I must say it pleases me to know these don't come from Malaysia but the Royal Marines. What a cool provenance it would be if true.

Shot mine just yesterday, and it was suh-weet (sweet).

I shot some of my AR15 rifles yesterday in fact, and this one was among them (and probably my favourite). Maybe I should buy another one as you did!

Coming in unfired condition and near mint surely is cool.

Here's me yesterday shooting it

ETA: some of my other AR15s that I brought and shot yesterday. Last on the right, this M16A1.

Nice buying , Oplita.
That's what Trimex owner who imported them in Italy told me. We will never know the real story, I guess.

This is my M16A1 with its "twin" of a good friend of mine.

So what's the going price for a retired m16a1 in Italy these days?

I'm seeing the ones sold by Trimex at 1400 euro, while I paid 1800 for mine (including its original, Colt marked M7 bayonet)

€ 1,400 is the price of a small importer that sells only on special days ... if you buy it today you can not find it at that price!
the importer that has them available sells them with the bayonet Colt's 62316, list price is 1920 €
... always remember that Italian prices are inclusive of tax (VAT 21%)

Thanks Oplita (and happy to make your acquaintance)

I like more USA ranges, as usually they're cleaner and better kept.

This is really a "country" one (where there is a very friendly rapport among members, I'm lucky to be there) outside of Rome, where I reside.

The owner, who's a retired military, would be proud to have read what you say 123gt!

i see it's .750" under the front sight base, then .625" (normal "pencil barrel" size) to the flash hider.
is it .625" or .750" under the handguards?
well, is it skinny like the front (don't know what .625" is in MM's) 15.43MM
and that range is beautifully designed , compact and very safe.
it goes without saying i want it in my backyard.
do a lot of people complain about the noise?
is there a "out in the country" in Italy?
around here all the neighbors would be up in arms (ha, arms!)

I checked and at the flash hider barrel is 9/16" (14.32 mm) then it is incresing to 5/8" (15.89 mm) under the front sight base.
I did not remove the handguards but looking through the holes it seems barrel is again less than 5/8" ... maybe 9/16"

This just makes so much sense. With such mods, the rifles could have been sold to us under the CMP porgram. Truth is, the CMP will not be in business much longer if you ask me - a real shame. This is an issue we could possibly do something about - maybe they could at least sell us upper parts. If you modified one of these receivers to take FA parts, you would be in violation of the NFA, just as if you modified an AR-15 lower, do what's the diff? Perhaps some pieces of history could be saved. Of course, there are a lot of Pols out there who don't consider the M16 part of our history...
