Somewhere on my wish lists, the M1 higher than the M14. Not sure I'll ever have an M1A1 or that book. Usually with me, the rifle comes first, then the CGP volume.

In 2000 I bought a 1991 Springfield M1A1 with a factory camp stock from an ex gun dealer, came with 4 mags, a scope and mount for $1100. I had always wanted one. I still have it along with 3 surplus synthetic stocks (one is white for snow) and about 15 mags.  I still love that gun.  I love my ARs but when you hold an M-14 it just feels so badass!

Not a slam, but I can't resist.  OP probably meant to credit Blake Stevens.  Blake Edwards directed screwball comedies in the 1970's and 1980's  -

The T44E4 became the M14, and its heavy barrel automatic rifle sibling, the T44E5 became the M15 rifle. However, the latter was declared obsolete before it ever entered production because initial experimentation led folks to belive that merely fitting a bipod to a M14 would work just as well.  However, not everyone was convinced.  This led to a member of the US Army's Infantry Board creating the prototype M14(USAIB).  The success of the the latter led to the formal develoment of the M14E2, which was ultimately  stardardized as the M14A1.  The M14E1 designation covered rifles fitted with a series of experimental folding stocks.

P.S.:  I goofed earlier.  The T44E5 became the M15, not the T44E6.  The T44E6 was an experimental lightweight version of the T44E4.

Not an M1A1 guy at all, but just wondering. A friend of mine years ago had one of those pistol grip stocks, and IIRC paid quite a lot and sold it for even more. Are those like really unobtanium or such?
