Ran into another problem fitting my weaver ring to that Chinesium barrel mount. Way out of spec but some early morning millwork solved that |

For those with the Aimpoint 9000SC is the scope usable under nods?

Very curious as well! I didn't know the 9000SC existed but it looks much more "correct" than my CompM2.

Ok so since there's no Weaver base that works perfectly with the car15 handguards I'm going to design and make my own. One style for 6 o'clock mounting and one style for the rounded areas. I'll use more robust hardware and make some custom backing plates too so they'll hold up under hard use. My question is should they be made to weaver specs or picatinny specs? Weaver has a .180 wide slot while picatinny has a .206 wide slot. Also would this be something I should make a small batch of and sell to you fine people?
|
|
|
The Weaver 61M has a flat base if you want to mount the light at 6 o'clock like many of the photos seem to show.

It does but it's just a little too wide and sits on top of the two ribs plus I'm not a fan of the tiny #6 screws. I'll design and cnc machine a couple variations in my spare time specific for the handguard. It'll have classic weaver looks but will be a more robust design. EDIT: I also want the picatinny/weaver slot as far forward towards the muzzle end as possible. Similar to the weaver 40A base. TNT |

I would say do picatinny that way anyone can use it. You’ll never notice it’s a pic width under the light mount.

You can also cut a piece of bicycle inner tube and make a little gasket to fit underneath it or a curved piece for a better fit to the hand guard. I would also never try to sue the screws that came with the 61M to secure it.
@CapnMike posted a link to some photos of how he did it near the top of page 79. |

Some may wanna use modern attachments that use pic rail plus the old weaver works with picatinny but not the other way around. I reckon if someone wanted it cut to weaver specs I could offer that as well. I have sourced some #10 screws that will fit the build and look retro. I think my main problem will be brand interchangeability. My b5 handguards seem to match the colts but they'reso many other companies offering them. |

ETA: pic https://i.ibb.co/zhD8gJB/20240820-172628.jpg @Blanco_Diablo Got my Aimpoint 9000SC in today. I did a test just now. The optic is completely useable under nods. I figured since the lowest settings don't even register in daylight, they are "likely" NVG compatible even if not explicitly stated by Aimpoint. I only went up to setting 3 but all were completely useable without any blooming or auto gating by my nods. |

I’m trying to pick a sling and I’m between a regular bfg or ordering a hub city for my Gordy build. I’d like for the rear portion to thread through the N1 stock and not be attached by paracord. Any opinions on the matter?
Also are the front wire mounts for attaching to the front post still available anywhere? I guess for the most part set up like the post above this one. |

I know you’re not going for clone correct so please don’t think I’m criticizing your build, but I’ll throw some ‘tistic knowledge out in case someone cares. The Vickers rifle used in Operation Acid Gambit in 1989 used a long out of production modified QXL dive light with a hardwired push button. I had a clone setup for a while, but it didn’t really do much for me so I repurposed most of it. Kept the light though. |

Not really planning on keeping it on there. I just like fiddling with stuff |
