Where are you guys finding the non F marked barrels for these?
|
|
|
I just ordered a complete upper from TNTE Sales. I know I'm gonna be waiting a while for it, but $500 for a pinned 14.5" A2 upper seemed hard to beat.
Glad to finally be getting one of these. It's been on my want list for a while. |

|
This sort of looks like my old Bushmaster XM15E2S. It had a 14.5'' barrel with a p&w A2 extended FH (after the mini tri-y was cut off). Fixed A2 carry handle, I believe it had double shielded hand guards, came with the pinned collapsible stock during the Clinton assault rifle ban. Non "F" marked front sight.

Do you think the whole upper was issued or rebuilt with the issued barrel? I have seen the posted pictures from the Black Rifle books here but not any others. Pics of the whole upper would be great! |

It was on their site for a while and I figured I would take a chance on it since it had the side sling and large forward assist button that was machined to fit the A2 lower. it disappeared on fedex tracking for a couple days but just popped up in my town tonight so hopefully I'll have it tomorrow and I'll post some better pics. |

My contribution:
Attached File Attached File Attached File It's a 14.5" Colt barrel with P&W A2X on a Colt upper, with a PSA M4 lower and Model 1 Sales CAR stock. Yeah, it's not 100% clone correct, but, without $30k for a registered Colt receiver, it never would be. So, it's close enough for me. |

My next project is to clone W016312, the M4 I took to Kosovo in 2000 and Afghanistan in 02 with the 101st. It looked exactly like this one, except it had a flattop and detachable carry handle, rather than the A2 upper. |

Anyone have specifics on the experimental XM4 barrel profile? Thinking of having one turned down to match.

Spoke with them on the phone, no luck. Appreciate the tip. The lady I spoke to had been with them for 6 years and didn't remember an XM4 profile and couldn't tell me anything on it. Worth the try though.
I have an older colt M4 profile barre coming though, and using the pictures on page 1 I'm pretty sure I can infer what it should be. I'll post when I get it hands on. |

So I just bought a true colt 720 xm4 parts kit minus the reciever. Still has original barrel and everything. What's the best lower I should start looking for? I wanna get it pretty close to what it came with. The cut off reciever section that came with the parts kit was safe, semi, and full, don't know if that helps but thank u in advance. I don't wanna mess this up since it is one of my favorite carbines. Thanks so much in advance.

There isn't any currently available 80% that matches the early A2 profile you would need for the XM4. |

View Quote Just a guess; 15.5 including flash hider. They were only measuring for historical listing. That should be the approximate length of a 14.5 barrel plus the FH since we all have to add another 1/2 inch to extend our FH for legal length. Also that is a great picture of the early XM4 profile which is smaller forward of the FSB until the collar. Green Mountain used to sell that profile but quit a few years ago. ETA: Ok, I am stupid. The picture is a repost from PG 1. |

Great pictures in this thread. Have an A2 upper I dont know what to build into still. Torn between an M16A2 rifle or this XM4 style build.
Already have a Colt M4 (new production) so thinking something a little old school would pair great with it. |

The M4A1 Carbines would have gone primarily to units within USSOCOM and other SOF proponents that already had COTS R072x-series weapons (usually mixed in with M16A2s), and M4A1s and R072x and even some R0777 (see below) would/could have all served along side each other during the mid-to-late 1990s when this transition was occurring. ~Augee View Quote Leg Army was to get the fixed carry handle upper and "Burst." The Department of the Army Master Priority List (DAMPLE) had the 82nd, 10th Mountain, and 101st as the first XVIIIth Airborne Corps units to be fielded in Big Army, while USASOC's units had fielding from JSOC, Rangers, then the Groups. Army Modified Tables of Organization and Equipment (MTOEs) were changed from M16A2s to M4A1s. Table of Distribution and Allowances (TDAs) held on to the "5.56mm Carbine" until the M16A2 phase-out was complete -- so a guy on specified ODAs might have weapons cards for both an MTOE M16A2 and Beretta (that never left the arms room) and a TDA Colt 723 and .45. At one time on an ODA I had a dozen weapons cards for individual weapons for different missions and contingencies. |

Would be fun to build a M4A1 clone w/ a Balimoy engraved overstamp & fixed carry handle upper.

Would I be crazy to use a 14.5" DD barrel with a no-name but correct height FSB vs snagging a Colt barrel assembly with Flattop height FSB?

I just got an upper from a buddy and it has the keyhole stamp but no others what could this mean

Problem solved, snagged a 1995 Colt barrel as it turns out!
Next riddle is finding the correct side sling mount. I'm looking at the photos in thread and the side sling mount isn't the old school A1/A2 mount but it's also not the more modern M4 mount either. I'm gonna take a flying leap and guess those are not readily available anywhere so gonna suck it up and get a more recent M4 side sling mount. Heart broken. Although... The ranger eval pic on page 1 does show a standard bottom sling mount. So maybe I can make this work as is? |

XM4 cannot have the early 2000s M4 carbine stock, right? Has to be the old N stock?
The lowers are marked “M4 Carbine”, right? |

Would there be anything better than the basic black nylon silent sling for an XM4 build? I've got my XM4 upper just about done (Except I haven't knocked out the front sling to install side swivel yet) But that's next. Lower receiver itself hasn't shipped yet but I have all the parts lined up so that'll be a real quick and easy build once it is shipped.
