What I have to work with:
I have a 16" barrel and want to zero my Magpul iron sights and an EOtech 512 on a 25 meter range with bench rests. After zeroing I will be doing mostly static shooting and most of my targets will be within 300 meters.

Extent of my knowledge:
Okay, so I know the very basics. I've zero'd my M4 in the Army using the irons and an ACOG and Aim-point/CCO. We use a target that simulates a human silhouette at 300 meters when placed at 25 meters. I've owned my personal AR's for a few years but due to not having time to use them I've only bore sighted them and then adjusted the sights and optics while aiming at targets at random distances.

My questions:
-What distance should I zero for?  (Keep in mind the target will have to simulate the distance from 25 meters away)
-What kind of targets do I need?
-Do you have any other advice at all?

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help.

-Do you have any other advice at all? Buy low and sell high, Drugs are bad, MmmmKay

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help.

I use the same target the Army uses at 25m that you are familiar with. Prints on standard 8-1/2 x 11 printer paper. Pickup a heavier weight paper like photo paper. The zero I went with is the 255m zero the Army Marksmanship Unit established. The 255m bullet path for the M4 is -0.43" at 25 meters, so on the target I just measured from center mass down to -0.43". I aimed center mass, and adjusted until I was hitting that low when aiming center mass. I have not had a chance to get out to a range yet to verify at known distance is why I have zeroed this way for the time being.
